Ribbon cable inside phone to display sometimes gets jarred loose. If you can remove the base, then unscrew the 2 screws holding the display in place, then slide it out and look for the ribbon cable being loose. If you have small hands maybe you can get that back to its spot. Better yet buy a replacement phone on eBay for 25 bucks instead of hoping it'll go back in and work properly. Some displays go bad line by line, in which case there's no help for it.

All of my NEC Dterms have problems I have been replacing them one by one, with my vendor. Today I called my vendor to ask them for 5 more replacements. (this would now make the last of all my original phones to be replaced) To my surprise they told me I can no longer exchange my phones as the warranty is over. GEEZZZ! NEC needs to take responsibility on this matter as this is clearly a manufacturing defect, (phones are dated 2007)
