Question about Kenmore 25842 Top Load Washer
Kenmore Elite Mod 110.24964301 first was reluctant to run but after pauses ran the load. Now it will not run after filling with water. I do not see a lid switch and assume it is connected to or operates off the lid hinge somewhere under the top. I'm embarrassed to admit I don't know how to remove the top to see the switch. I believe this machine is at least 7 or 8 yrs old. We have not had to make any repairs until now. We usually buy our appliances from the Sears outlet which sells scratched, dented or returned equipment. I have no reason not to continue this practice. I used to rely heavily on information from Sears about parts and do it yourself repair. While in the Army I could get parts even overseas.
I recognized that I failed to give enough information to allow experienced people to diagnose my washer problem so I decided to watch the entire cycle and hopefully obtain symptoms of the failure. The washer filled with water and then did nothing until I lifted and dropped the lid a second time. The washer started and ran without problems until I lifted the lid during the second rinse. It failed to continue until I raised dropped the lid and dropped it again when it resumed running until the whole cycle was finished.
I believe from this that the lid switch is marginal, fouled with corrosion possibly or otherwise compromised and perhaps near failure. I propose to order a new switch and operate with awareness of the probable problem until the switch can be installed. If anyone can advise how to access the switch I would appreciate that help. I still don't know how to remove the top although once I can view the rear it may reveal options for doing that.
By the way I have a solution for washers that want to move around. I attached four rubber stoppers with a center hole to the washer and the wall using copper pipe brackets used to mount pipe to wood. These are located onto the upper back of the washer at each side. Then two pieces of very heavy wire are shaped like a wide U with a flat bottom and short legs. The width of the bottom determines how far from the wall you want the washer. Turn the U shaped wire legs down and insert them into the stoppers and you will have a vibration resistant hold on the washer that is easy to detach for maintenance.
