You don't mention where you are located so I'll have to assume you are in North America. Generally use 10/40 in Canada or the northern states, 20/50 in the southern states.

SOURCE: can I put synthetic oil in a 1987 honda goldwing

Yes, Honda recommends 10w-40 year round. For hot weather or for long trips 20w-50 is good. Use only JASO MA certified motorcycle oil . DO NOT use any oil that says ENERGY CONSERVING on the label. It will shorten transmission gear and wet clutch life. Both Amsoil and Mobil One make excellent full synthetic motorcycle oils. Your engine will run cooler and shift smoother. You should also consider synthetic hypoid gear oil in your rear end, it will also benefit from less friction and will run cooler .

SOURCE: What is the correct 1987 Honda Goldwing GL1200

there is some room for adjustment, i think about 10 oz but the springs could be progressive and use different amount of oil...Call a honda dealer have them explain the difference including the reason for different weighs of oil, to help you set your suspension correct fo an air ride shock

What weight fork oil should i use in a 1987 goldwing

Many Gold Wing riders use ATF. I would try this first. See how it rides. If you want a firmer ride use 15W fork oil. Rod

I need to know what kind of oil to use for a Honda motorcycle.

You need an SE oil, Wal Mart used and maybe still does sell a motorcycle oil (not their brand). You probably will need 30 weight or a multi viscosity (which I use 20-50). Buy a good oil, maybe a synthetic with that rating. Rear final takes 90 weight in most instances except cold weather. A parts house or bike shop will sell the right oil. Just buy the best oil you can, and keep it changed frequently & the wing will just about go forever, Hope this helps you with your scoot, Rick
