Perform a system restore
Start-> Programs-> Accesories->Systtem tools->System restore
Restore it to a day when the USB was working fine.
Click on the above link and download the latest updates possible onto the laptop. Please do comment

Hey there, lets see if we can get this fixed for ya. ok first, have you made any hardware or software changes to your laptop if so what were they. If not then right click on my computer=> properties=> hardware=> device manager. Click on the plus sign next to universal serial bus controllers. First see if you have any question marks. If not, right click on the usb controller and click uninstall. Restart the computer, it will reinstall the usb controller. See if that works for ya if not let me know.
