Seems that the HD is starting to quit working. Try to change the drive letter (from F: to any drive letter). To do this, please follow the steps below:
Using your Windows XP computer:
1. Connect the HD to the computer.
2. Right-click 'My Computer' folder > Manage
3. Select Disk Management.
4. Write down all the drive letters that will appear on the screen.
5. Unplug the HD and you will notice that one of the drive letters will disappear (probably drive F:)
6. Reconnect the HD to the computer and once the drive letter appears again, right-click on it and there's an option for you to change the drive letter.
I would suggest for you to use the letters: W, X, Y or Z. So that you can make sure that it will not override other drive letters.
If you get the same problem, the best suggestion that I could give you is to bring the HD into any Data Recovery Center near you. The Data Recovery Centers are computer stores/shops that offers data recovery/retrieval.
Hope it helps and have a good day ahead!

- Hhmmmmm.....sorry to hear that. Well, since you already went to a Data Recovery Center and seems it's impossible for them to retrieve the files, we cannot do anything about it.
But if you would like to use the HD, you may try reformatting the HD under the Disk Management. But remember, once you reformat your HD, all files will be erased.
Thanks!
