Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite Console

1 Answer

The details: System - Xbox 360 Game - Left 4 Dead I'm seeing strange color static pattern on certain objects in the environment. Which objects are affected seems random, they might change on subsequent play through of a given scene. Otherwise, it still plays fine. The problem hasn't shown up in other games I've tested.

Thanks - we do like to move fast, but it even occurs in the lobby. The marquee sign on the left and the awning on the right are often affected.

Btw, here are some screen shots from the first level of No Mercy...

Haven't played online recently, so just on our system. When in split-screen co-op, we both see it on the same objects, though. Xbox sits out away from walls and not under anything, so I'd say it's as well ventilated as possible!

I was afraid of that. This is box #2. Thanks for your help, tho!

This is fairly common, especially if you are moving quickly in left 4 dead. It is maxing out the Xbox 360's capabilities and once and a while will get a graphic glitch here or there. Make sure your xbox 360 is well ventilated and is not overheating. This could cause this as well, but since you say it's only in left 4 dead this is probably not the case.

Wow that is really strange, does everyone in the game see it, or is it just on your system? That could be a heat issue definitely, is your 360 in a very well ventilated area?

Yes that sounds as well ventilated as can be. That is very very strange. You are definitely having issues with the GPU (graphical processing unit) in the xbox 360. This is actually an indicator that it could be nearing the infamous red ring of death (you're probably familiar, google if unaware). There is a good chance you xbox is still under warranty and microsoft will replace it for free. Give them a call at 1-800-4-My-Xbox. I would tell them you are experiencing graphical issues and maybe even tell them you think you may have had a red ring occur that went away after reboot. Usually that's the "key phrase" they need to hear to give you a replacement model. Sorry I couldn't be of more help but rest assured it's nothing you did or could have done to prevent it.

Try manually choosing lower resolutions in your xbox display settings. My Insignia HDTV does that when switching resolutions like on Hulu in between commercials and then back to the show but only for a second or so. Also does this when going from the loading screens to the game screens for a few seconds when playing the game Split/Second

Picture freeze and pinstrip on the screen

When a Microsoft Xbox 360 console experiences a "general hardware" failure or "core digital" failure, three flashing red lights appear (known as the "Red Ring of Death") around the power button, in lieu of the four green lights indicating normal operation. Warning signs may include freeze-ups, in which the screen has strange, spontaneous graphical problems in the middle of gameplay, such as checkerboard or pinstripe patterns on the screen, the sound is frozen and changed to a strange, static-like sound, and the console only responds to pressing the power button to turn it off. These events may happen once or several times until the general hardware failure occurs, when the user attempts to turn the console on, and the three red lights are seen and the console will not function.

this sounds like it will error e74 which will need a reflow
but dont overheat with a towel as this will cause more problems

How is the 360 connected to the TV? This sounds like your component cables are attached wrong. make sure red, green, and blue are connected to the corresponding jacks.

one option is to buy the official microsoft PC/ 360 controller.

I looks exactly like a regular 360 controller, but it comes with a small receiver in which you will be able to interact with the PC as well.
