Question about Pentax Optio S40 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Forgets settings My optio s40 worked well until just after the warranty expired. Then it started acting up. It maintains the default settings in auto mode. It allows me to change them, but when I shut it off and power up again, it has returned to the default settings. In Pict mode, it maintains EV +1, AWB as flourescent lighting and image size as one higher than the smallest size. Again, I can change the settings, but when I shut it off and power up again, these are the settings it has. Any ideas of how to get it to remember the last settings I had?

My problem seems to be the same kind of thing. I change the picture size setting, then when I turn it off the picture size goes back to what it was before I changed it. Other mode/settings do the same thing. Also the clock resets itself to about 15 minutes before when I turned it off. I took the batteries out for an hour but it still does the same thing when I return them.

I am trying to contact Pentax about this but sofar no response.

I had the same problem. Pentax told me to format the memory inside the camera (take out the memory stick and camera will be set to camera memory). This works! (though i have to do it approx every 200pics, the problem keeps coming back!)

Lens error on my camera

In most cases this isn't a mechanical problem, it's the component board that runs the auto-focus. This is a common issue, the only way to completely resolve it however is to have it repaired by the manufacturer.

As this was a common issue, many users have stated their camera was replaced even after the 1 year warranty had may want to check with the manufacturer to see if this is the case with yours as well.

Optio S40 white objects are pink

Sounds as though the white balance is off, check your manual on how to alter the white balance to manual - then change it back to auto. It should fix it.

I have had a similar problem. Pictureres look like they are taken through a Venetial blind with white horizontal bands though I did get one with dark banding. It appears to have something to do with light levels. I took a few pics in a dark area with no flash and now it is working again...until it quits working again. Perhaps it is something to do with light level calibration? Whatever it is the problem is internal. If you are still under warranty, I highly recommend taking your camera in for repairs/replacement. Ours started acting up just after the warranty expired so no love for us.
