Must be a problem with the flash lock. Try to pop up the flash manually using the flash button located at the top left of the camera beside the flash. If this does not work, you may need to have the cam serviced

My nikon D-80's flash won't pop up, yet it also won't go past the flash sync speed of 1/200 while flash is down

Was the camera impacted? Sound like the flash up switch if always closed. Remove battery. If you carefully remove the flash cover (two screw underneath) by first inserting a business card under the flash on the rewind side (yeah, we haven't come up with a better term!) at the back and slide it forward freeing the flash down latch), and do not touch the flash tube as there is 300 + volts across it if it is charged!

Look at the pivot for the flash on the release button side at the back, you will see a small switch. the top part may be under the activating rod - reset it above the rod and it will now work properly

Once again, be careful - there are 300 volts across the flash tube if it is charged

The Canon 300TL will work with the Nikon D80, though you won't get all of their features, such as iTTL metering.

How do you turn off automatic flash manually on Nikon d80?

Assuming you're in one of the point&shoot modes (any mode other than the PSAM modes), press and hold the flash button on the front of the camera and turn the main command dial on the back to cycle through the available flash modes. To turn flash off, select the lightning bolt in a circle with a slash through it.

In the PSAM modes the flash will not pop up on its own.

D80 SLR lens /flash prob lem

What are your other lenses? If they're not AF lenses, you're not going to get autofocus or metering.

Is your flash not working when popped up? Remember that the flash won't pop up automatically in Manual mode.

Nikon D80 - My (built in) Flash will not pop up.

That is just a mechanical problem. There is just a little hook holding the flash and it retracts when you push the bottom to pop up the flash. I'm sure it can be easily fixed, never the less your camera store or Nikon should take care of it. So take it back to the place you bought it.

D80 flash doesn't close

erik, It's a little plastic arm with a tiny hook that moves to allow the flash to pop up when you press the flash button on the front of the camera or select the built-in flash option.  You may be able to get parts direct from Nikon or if you have a good local repair shop they may have a parts D80 to cannibalize for you if you have the skill to put it together.  If you got the camera at a good price and don't really rely on the built-in flash, (one on the hot shoe is always better) then tape that puppy down with some electrical tape until the repair is done and shoot all you want, peel it back for the pop up when you need a fill in flash or you don't have the flash with you.

Nikon D80 using Bower AF 724AFN

I also purchased a Bower 724AFN to use with my D80, and experience the same problems. Received confirmation from Nikon that this flash unit is not compatible with the camera. I then purchased an SB-600 flash, and haven't looked back. It's worth the extra money for this high quality unit; fully compatible, and compliments the TTL features of the D80. I'll never deviate from original Nikon accessories again.

The 60CT-4 was not made for digital cameras.
It does TTL on film not on CMOS or CCD sensor.
