You should be able to access this from the Printer Properties if its adjustable for your printer. Go to the control panel, choose the printer and right click on it and you'll get a context menu with printing preferences and properties. It may by on an advanced tab.
For more detail, you can access the online user's manual or ask specific questions at the HP support site here.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

How do I reduce scan file size when the resolution is already 200 dpi?

An 8.5 inch wide document scanned at 200 dpi gives you an image that is 1700 pixels wide. This is almost enough to fill a fullHD TV screen at native resolution (1920 pixels wide) which is unnecessary detail. I would use any picture editing programme (many free ones available) to reduce the overall pixel width of your already scanned images by 50 percent. This will automatically reduce the 1MB image to 250k. If you can scan again, use 100 dpi to scan - the result is same; image will be half as wide (and long), and picture file size one quarter of the 200 dpi scan.

I am trying to scan a document and it is not working, I have a hp photosmart c4280 printer. How do I install a usb cord

hi
Place the document or image into the scanner for scanning. A scanner with a paper feeder will only receive flat papers and photographs, but a flatbed scanner opens to accommodate books, fabrics and leaves along with flat papers. There is even a attachment for feeding photo slides into flatbed scanners.
  • Step 2 Start the scanning softwaremag-glass_10x10.gif. If the scanner does not engage the software automatically, press the "start" or "scan" button, or click the scanner icon on the computer screen to initialize the software.
  • Step 3 Activate the scan. Click the "file" menu and select "acquire," "import," or another practical choice that applies.
  • Step 4 Preview the item to be scanned. Most scanners have a preview option. This will show the scan area inside dotted lines. The lines can be moved with the mouse to relocate, enlarge or crop the scanning area.
  • Step 5 Set the resolution for images by number of dots per inch (dpi). For computer screen viewing, 100 dpi should suffice. Use 200 to 300 dpi for items to be printed.
  • Step 6 Use the appropriate setting for scanning black and white text. If the scanner does not show a preset for text, use "line art" or "black and white" at 300 dpi. Then use the optical character recognition (OCR) program to convert the image of the text into a file for word processi

HP Officejet 6500 E709n- scanned pdf are too big

I am sorry you are having this problem. I had the same problem with this scanner and mac as well. I I finally gave up and bought a Pc and that fixed the problem.

I even had a mac pro come out and he counldn't fix the problem. If you have a separate device (fax) you may want to purchase efax and send yourself a fax. It will come a .pdf which works.

It's a total pain and cause me to resort to buying a pc because I was losing business.

    Scan multiple page documents

On my scanner, I feed the documents on the ADF feeder (paper feeder) and when it finishes one scan, I tell it to continue. It will scan all you docs and put it in on file that you can send as one attachment.
