Question about KitchenAid KP50PS Professional 5 Series Stand Mixer
KitchenAid KP50 Professional 5 mixer will not come on at all. When it was put away several years ago, it was reported to turn slowly, making odd noises, so i assumed a gear problem. I pulled the lower gear assembly, cleaned out the tons of packed grease, and looked the gears over, everything turns smoothly, and the gears appeared nearly new. Re-assembling, I tries the mixer, and nothing happened at all. All the wiring appears ok, with good connections. Bad motor?

There is an adjustment screw and a system for setting it. You can find a video of it here (or just a ton of people who know all about these mixers). I just found it while trying to troubleshoot the same problem for my wifes mixer.

I'd check the brushes. The big black screws on the side of the motor casing, easily removed, but becareful when you put them back. Here were some instructions from another site that helped me get them back in right:
The brushes in my model KP50PSBU must be insert in a particular manner in order for it to work correctly. If you remove the brushes and shine a flashlight into the hole, you should see a small detent or "stop" in one corner of the hole. Its a square hole. Match this corner with the corner of the brush which is shaved off. The brush is not square; it has one corner shaved or smoothed down. This allows the brush to fully extend into the hole. If the brush is inserted any other way, it will not contact the motor and will not run.
