Beeping occurs on phone (on both ends of the connection), and white noise. Tried using different USB, different phone cabling, rebooting, all to no effect. Using Mac OS X, Mac Pro and digital cable modem.

Is this a VOIP connection? If so then this is very common. Is it in a home or office environment?
