If you could clarify the file it would make it easier. In general you can create a live USB using SLAX. They have directions on their website to make a USB bootable OS. If you can do that make sure the file you need is on your USB maybe you can pull it from another computer. When you do this boot to the USB... make sure you change your boot menu to usb... on an Acer I think it is f12. Choose USB and then you can load the os and place the file in the right place. If this is not possible you can do a reinstall of the OS.

Hi,

It happens when the Software that is not Windows Vista capable (such as printer software, CD burning software, and games) may have modified the registry to cause the optical drive to not function.

Please follow the steps below:

1.From the Windows Vista default Start menu, point to All Programs, Accessories, and then clickRun.
2.In the Run dialog box, type: Regedit. Click OK.
3.In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4.In the Registry Editor window, locate and then click to select the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
5.From the File menu, click Export.
6.In the File name dialog box, type: Savedkey, and then click Save.
7.Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters file, and then from the Edit menu, clickDelete. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
8.Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters file, and then from the Edit menu, clickDelete. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
9.In the Registry Editor window, from the File menu, click Exit.
10.Shut down Windows® and restart the computer.

At start up the ACER logo appears as is normal and then instead of going through the remainder of the boot process, the following appears on the screen (with a solid black background): Windows could not...

For the Hal.dll file missing problem do this:
1.Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD.
2.At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
3.Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.
Typically this will be #1
4.Type bootcfg /list to show the current entries in the BOOT.INI file
5.Type bootcfg /rebuild to repair it
6.Type exit and take out the CD ROM

Reset bios without running hard disk first

2 options:

  1. create a bootable cd with the bios rom file, and a dos based flash utility (included with bios download). Boot to cd and flash.
  2. Connect a usb floppy drive and create bootable floppy. Copy rom file and flash utility to floppy, boot to floppy and flash......option 2 may be easier if you are not familiar with creating bootable cd's.......Let me know if this helps or not.

Install the file using USB drive such as pendrive.

Visit the below link for more information on hal.dll missing or corrupt:

Try the steps in method 1.

For method 2, we need to use Windows XP CD, try to use external DVD drive and after connecting the external drive, you can reinstall the file or follow the other steps to resolve the issue.

Thats a very easy one to solve. Just copy the DLL file back on to the harddrive. You can restore it from the original Windows XP CD.

Forgotten password

Hello:

If you want to restore your laptop to factory setting: You should insert your "recovery disk to the CD/DVD ROM. and then shutdown the laptop.

Now; boot your laptop using the recovery disk(boot the laptop from CD/DVD rom) This will no need to input the password: its either you have to restore the system without deleting the existing files or you have to partition and format the hard drive. formatting hard drive you will end up with fresh copy of system files. same as first day when you purchase the laptop.

be sure to install the driver if there's any.

However; if you tend to do by supplying the password. iguess all factory installation has no password. you have to strike the enter without supplying any password.

may this help,
