Throttle position sensor, or just dirty. Try running higher octane gas, (premium) and/or a gas treatment supplement like STP every other tankfull. High performance engines won't run right on regular gas. My mom uses premium, she gets great performance and better gas mileage in her 99 oldsmobile.

My 1993 Ford Festiva 1.3L occasional engine hard start, sputters on start up then runs fine, but sometimes has a slight "cut out" on gentle acceleration, problem clears up but comes back at lower speeds....

sound like your throttle positioning sensor or even yhe throttle it self it is electronic as far as i know the tiny metal bands come of and if the reading from the pedal sensor is incorect fuel shut of wil ocure
