Question about Nikon COOLPIX S51 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a nikon coolpix L20 and HP memory card.

I copied all the pics on the computer to the new 2 GB memory card but then when it put it into the camera the camera says it cannot read the card. I think that for some reason Nikon products and HP don't work together. I am seeing other people on the internet talking about the same thing.
Oh well. Just have to buy a Kingston memory card as i know those work.

Hey you can put your photos from your camera to your computer and view it directly but if you want to do the vice versa(i.e computer to camera) if you just like that copy the photos from your computer and paste them in your device's memeory then you cannot view them . instead you have to install the picture package transfer from your installation cd(may be a different name for nikon software) and then connect your camera via usb. open the software you installed then you should transfer the photos to camera from computer via the software only. this happens because your camera is an embedded system and its not a computer.for your information hp and nikon have nothing to do with this issue..

L20 card is protected. Slide switch is in correct position, put new card in switch in the correct position, same message. Cards work in computer. Removed batteries, hour, and no difference.

The problem may be the card type or size. There are limitations to what the camera can support. Here is a link to a table of supported memory cards (Brand/size/type) that the Coolpix can accmmodate.

Nikon COOLPIX L20 Digital Camera + lost connection message

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

You can download the current versions of Nikon software, including Nikon Transfer and Nikon ViewNX from http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61 . Nikon Transfer is used to transfer pics from the camera to the computer, either through the USB link or via a card reader. Nikon ViewNX can be used to catalog your pictures.

Greetings,

I would take out the SD memory card and use it with a card reader like this one: http://bit.ly/5fruhB . You simply take out the SD memory card and put it in the card reader. Then put the usb end of the card reader into your computer and download the pictures that way.I also recommend that you download Picasa, a free photo organizer/editor for your pictures: http://bit.ly/5f6HEt This way you bypass the lousy nikon software altogether. Hope that was helpful,
Take Care,

How can i use my nikon l20 as webcam also

You can't. It's designed as a still camera with limited video capabilities. Any videos go to the memory card or internal memory. It's not intended as a webcam.
