Question about Sony BRAVIA KDL-40S2000 40 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

HDMI problem I have a composite cable set connected to my Comcast HD tuner and recently installed a HDMI to the same Comcast box. There is a slight improvement in picture and sound using the HDMI. My problem is that when I change channels and go from a NON-HD station to a HD station I don't get picture. This is ONLY when I use the HDMI cable. I changed to the other HD input and get the same results. When using the Composite cable I don't experience this problem. Also, if I cycle the power off/on the TV I get my picture at 1080i like I should. Any suggestions?

Can you connect a hd converter to a Toshiba cx 32 g60 tv

there isn't much point in connecting an hd converter the toshiba cx32g60. the tv can only support an sd signal (composite video or ntsc analog). however, many hd set-top boxes (dvd players, cable and satellite) have composite outputs. these can be connected to your tv. blu-ray videos can't be watched with this tv. (the hdcp (high definition copy protection) can't be sent through most converters.)

if you want to watch ota programming , the cheapest option would be to find an sd digital-to-analog converter. these were the ones sold when most stations switched to digital tuners. some are being sold off as people replace their old analog sets. there are some hd tuner boxes, like this one: , that have composite video output which will connect to the cx32g60.

i hope this helps.

(if you tried an hdmi to component video converter followed by a component to composite video converter, the signal may degrade excessively.)

The entire screen is green but the audio is fine.......the tv is about 2 years old....any suggestions?

Is this from the tuner, or using HDMI/composite inputs? If it's HDMI/composite inputs, unplug and replug the cables at both ends. It could just be dust/corrosion on a connector. If it's from the tuner, connect another source through one of the input cables and see what happens.

It's also possible someone sat on the remote, or otherwise changed the settings by accident, or playing a trick on you. Go into the video menu and check the color and tone settings.

Unfortunatly Poleroid is a very economic set and Since there is no built-in ASTC tuner you will have to connect HD sources via the component or DVI jacks. You will ned a plug that is HDMI to component or DVI to get your service.

I cant plug the cable in the back there is no cable connector in the back of this tv i would like to know if there is a connector i can buy pdp monitor mix42hpm20

If you have a Maxent MX-42hpm20, it has the following connections: Component, S-Video, Composite, HDMI and VGA. There is no tuner included as it was sold as a monitor.

You need a set top tuner box (cable box or a OTA tuner - depending on your set up). One option may be to install a tuner on your computer and then connect the computer to the monitor. If you have digital cable, make sure the tuner handles Clear QAM. If OTA, then you can use a digital-to-analog converter set top box.

I hope this helps.

TV set always starts up indicating 420p. How do I get it to 1080?I have Bell expressvu HD

is your cable or sat in HD(720p, 1080i, 1080p) over the air broadcast in the usa is in digital so it should start at the highest res available in your area

next are you using HDMI or composite for your cable or sat going into your tv if not your not going to get higher than 420p because A/V and S-video do NOT support HD

check your cable/sat box is it HD(high def) or SD(standard def) if SD going through cattv/attn in your only going to get 420p

now for changing the resolution its automatic it goes to the highest setting on its own

you can control the resolution through your cable/sat box, blue ray/hddvd player and other HD devices connected to the tv through the options menus of those devices BUT only when connected through

HDMI(supports 720p, 1080i, 1080p)
composite(supports 420p, 420i, 720p)
A/v and S-video(supports 420p)
cat tv/attn in(supports 420p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p) only supports what the tuner will do

If by regular cables you are talking about the standard red/yellow/white composite cables, then, yes, it will affect HD as composite cannot send an HD signal. Only HDMI and component (red/blue/green video only) cables.

Change to HDMI and let us know if it works for you.

Close captioning on HDMI

The TV will not display closed caption with HDMI input. It must either over-the-air (antenna) or composite input for the TV to manage CC.

To get CC with HDMI from your Comcast DVR, you need to configure the cable box. Instructions can be found here:

If you want CC all of the time, this works well. But since you must power-off the cable box to change the setting, switching CC on and off is a real pain.

Your set-up is similar to mine (Sharp Aquos 46" and Comcast DVR). I have the composite output from the cable box going to a DVD-recorder and on to the TV. Whenever I need CC (usually to catch some mumbled dialog), I just rewind the DVR, and switch the TV input to the composite input. Then I switch back to HDMI to continue watching in HD.

No sound on NON HD channels

I had the exact same problem on a brand new Insignia 26 " LCD with DVD. Comcast tech was able to fix it by changing the Comcast box diagnostics. Here is what he did. Using the Comcast remote with the TV on - press power, cable, menu in that order. A comcast diagnostic srceen will appear. Select Additional HDMI options, then audio options. Change the audio options to L-PCM. Press power again to exit the diagnostics. That will fix it and you get to use the HDMI cable.

Connecting HD cable box to DVR too HDTV

When I hooked up my HD cable box using an HDMI cable, I had to go into the cable screen menus and select HDMI output. You may have to do something similar when using an S-video cable. Your DVD recorder doesn't seem to have an HDMI input, so you'll have to use the S-video or (worst case) composite video (red, white, yellow cords). Your cable box may also be scrambling the signal so that you can't record. That may be why you can record by bypassing the cable box.
