Help I have 97 honda civic coupe sr need advice on ecu as iv found out that engine is car is d15b and not an d16y8 v tec
The engine management light is on wen key is turned but wen I plug out ecu engine management light stays off any help out there
So some one has done a engine swap if there are left over plugs then the engine light will be on v-tec engines have solenoids that operate the camshaft the 1500 non v-tec does not .computer and wiring are different.

Yes. No crank sensor signal usually means no spark. The ecu has to receive crank position to set spark timing. I think you've really hit a big problem. You may need to get in touch with some people who have done this mod. I've always heard it's best and easiest to swap the engine with its ecu and the wiring harness into another car. Or something more compatible with that jdm engine.

Tighten the cylinder head bolts to their final torque
specification in four steps. Use a crisscross sequence starting with the
bolts at the middle of the head and working toward the outer bolts as
follows:
Step 1: Tighten each bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
Step 2: Tighten each bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
Step 3: Tighten each bolt to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).
Step 4: Retighten only the two center bolts to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).
ok i got a kind rig way to get you going is goto radio shack get what is called a potentiometer(pot) on you immobilizer wires unless you can get them from column hook it up (pot) them turn key and to start hold there and turn (pot) till it turns over when it does turn off key use a ohm meter disconnect wires from (pot)and measure resistance and go back to radio shack and buy a resistor of that value and solder it in the wires you hooked the (pot) to. that should get you back up again.
The 96-98 Civic EX came with an OBD2A D16Y8 engine. That is the only engine that will go in as a direct replacement with your current engine ECU. It's an SOHC VTEC engine that has two extra connections not found on the other 96-98 Civic engines - a VTEC solenoid and a special oil sensor used to determine if VTEC engagement is possible. If you swap in an older Civic engine (92-95 generation) you'll have to convert the car to OBD1 (requires a special adapter hardness) and run the ECU that goes with whatever engine you use. This will break functionality of your OBD2 diagnostics port, and depending on which state you live in will cause you to fail emissions checks. If you install a D16Y8 engine from a 99-00 Civic EX, you will have to swap the intake and exhaust manifolds from your old engine to the new engine, and you will be able to continue to run your existing OBD2A wiring and ECU. The 99-00 Civic EX engines have additional sensors, since those engines are OBD2B. The easiest fix would be to find a SOHC VTEC D16Y8 from a 96-98 Civic EX, as it would be a direct plug and play replacement.
