Question about Alesis M1-Active MkII Main / Stereo Speaker

Woofer doesn't work

One of my pair of Alesis M1 Active Mk2's has nothing coming out of the woofer. The light comes on, and the tweeter works, but no woofer movement. What could it be?

how much does that cost? how does that compare to replacing the whole woofer? where would I get instructions to fix it myself?

Sounds like the voice coil could be open or damaged. the woofer can be reconed. reconing replaces all the moving parts in the speaker frame returning to new condition in most cases.

There clearly is a fault in the sub's amp section. It's probably the main part that does most of the work. It will need to be replaced.

I see from the manual there are several controls on the speaker that could affect the sound in the way you describe (gain, hi- and mid-boost, acoustic space). Why don't you compare the actions of each control with the working speaker as the standard and a test tone or FM noise as the source? It might help you to identify a specific internal function that has changed. After that, someone's going to have to crack it open and do surgery.

You might also try using the opposite input (TRS vs XLR) than the one you're using. It might reveal something.

Blue led problem in alesis mk1 active

I dont think its anything to worry about, if the unit didnt turn on at all or the LED flickered then you would need a capacitor or 2 changing; check here; http://www.neufeld.newton.ks.us/electronics/?p=232

Opening up speaker enclosures

take out the screws that hold the tweeter in place and lift out the tweeter. There is a cover that hides the screws on the woofer. Its the one on the front with the Alesis name on. You need a small screwdriver or small blunt tool to prise it off. One off you will see the screws for the woofer
