If the dual in-line memory module in a bad condition will that stop the computer Display from working?

'A damaged DIMM'

There's just something about that I like.

(Do you have a damaged DIMM? Can't sleep at night? Take new....)

I don't know about a damaged SO-DIMM, but I would go for loose Ram Memory module. (SO-DIMM)

I would also present that you should remove all SO-DIMMS,
and clean the gold plated contact pins with a pencil eraser.

Rub the eraser back, and forth; and up, and down, on each contact pin. Both sides.

If using an eraser on the end of a pencil, and not a solid eraser; refrain from letting the metal band of the pencil, touch the contact pins.

Use air to remove the eraser dust.
You can use a can of compressed air for computers, if available, (Attach plastic 'straw'); or air pressure from your mouth will be sufficient.

Doesn't take much 'corrosion' to make a bad contact surface.

Reinstall the ram memory modules.
Suggest you install one ram memory module, in Slot 1.
(DIMM 1)

Then try the laptop.
No go?
Remove. Try the other ram memory module.(IF, applicable)

Post the results in a Comment.

I read the part about no Windows loading sound.
You may have diagnosed correctly.

However if the display fails to show, and even if there is no loading sound; I believe we should go on with the diagnosis, and try a flashlight.

Laptop on, shine the flashlight at the LCD screen, at various angles.
See faint images?

Use an external monitor, and see if the display shows on it.
What kind? Whatever fits the external video port, you have on the laptop.

VGA, HDMI, Mini-HDMI, etc.

Without the model number I would only be guessing.

Post the model number of the laptop. This is found on the Bottom.
Also, do I assume it is a Sony laptop? Sony VAIO?
Post back in a Comment.

{No display on external monitor?
There are at least 3 display options available;
1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external monitor
3) External monitor ONLY

Press, and hold the Fn key down, tap once on the Display Toggle-Over key.

GENERALLY, this is the F7 key for a Sony VAIO.
Small rectangle icon with LCD in it, and to the right there is an Oval(?) with a right Side Arrow.

Still no display on external monitor?
Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F7 key }

Once the model number is posted, I can be more direct with guidance.

Dell inspiron m5030 wont boot up, ac adapter has green light then once it is pluged in light goes out.

Try a hard reset. Sometimes it works and is always the first step to take.
Remove the battery and the ac adapter plug from the laptop.
Press and hold the power button for forty seconds.
Install the battery and ac adapter .Now press the power button to attempt a boot into the OS.

If that doesn't work then remove the hard disk to see if it gets past the splash screen and the BIOS whines that it can't find a boo-table OS. That would indicate a hard disk failure.
Also try to remove the memory module(s) from the DIMM slots and then reinstalling them. That reset the modules and cleans some oxidation off the module pins (if there is any)

Hope this helps.

Let me know if you need more information

I plug in my pc to the mains and itwill not boot, also the power led flashes faintly but quite rapidly. how do i get my laptop to charse and work properly?

The fact that your power LED flashes faintly and rapidly is sometimes a sign of a bad contact between your power socket on your motherboard. If you're really lucky then either you just need to open up your laptop and push the connector to the powerboard back in or you may need to replace the cable from the power socket to your motherboard. They're cheap and it's an easy enough job. The possible bad news is that there's a common fault with these laptops that overheating due to the fan outlet becoming clogged corrupts the solder connections between the motherboard and the built in graphics card.
What you are describing isn't typical of this because normally when this happens all the lights come on as normal when you press the power button but the screen stays black. It could also be a problem with your charger so try and borrow another charger and try that. If your graphics card is corrupt you can had a refloew done on it but I'd recommend you chnge the motherboard and have the fan cleaned out a couple of times a year

Sony vgn-s460: screen blinks, fan runs very loud

Possible clock timing of CPU is wrong. Is it two fan on this laptop? Maybe one is not functioning. Plus check your power supply if gives correct power!.. If none of this , it comes to the MB and possible a CAPS making problem. Need expert.

The laptop turns on, but the screen stays black

If you can shine a light into the screen and faintly make out the images? Then it's probably the inverter/backlight board, not too expensive or difficult to replace in most cases. Let us know.

Disappearing screen picture

Sounds like the battery is weak and it tried to save power by dimming the screen. You might need to contact the manufacturer and get it replaced if under warranty. If not, mess around with it a bit and if you can't solve it then buy a new one from the company.
