Question about Amana NDE2330AY Electric Dryer

Amana Electric Dryer runs but does not heat up - model ndw2330ayw -

My 2 year old Amana electric dryer recently started running for an extended period of time without heating up.

I have removed the face and pulled the heating coils out - they do not look burned but i'm not sure how to tell if the unit is defective.

I do not have a multi meter but will go get one if needed. Could someone let me know how to trouble shoot if the problem resides with the element, fuse or thermostats.

I am capable of changing the parts myself, i simply need to identify which parts to change. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice. I looked at multimeters today.

I also ordered a replacement fuse kit, it replaces both fuses and was only 15 bucks. Hopefully it'll do the trick.

Any advice about how i can test the actual element?

Same problem - I purchased the two fuse units (upper and lower limit) and the unit did nothing . No heat. Everything runs fine and no apparent breaks in the coils. Mine is the same age at less than 2 years old. Amana sure isn't Amana anymore.

U need to tap wires on the heater to may sure theres no break... would be lot easier to trouble shot with multi meter.. so u can ohm out parts and check for voltage

Dryer won't start

On the bottom left is the heating element. On that element is a limit. If open the dryer will not run.ba9d1b0.jpgHere is an amana late model service MANUAL:

Breaker keeps tripping when I use Amana NED5500TQ electric dryer.

Heating element or motor. Usually heating element. Replace limit switch (inside dryer) during repair. Limit switch should shut off before breaker if working correctly.

After repair clean or replace plug/wire. Inspect or replace receptacle in wall.

It is possible that you could have a bad breaker in the panel. They will start to trip randomly when they are going bad. If not the dryer is drawing too many amps and the breaker is doing it's job. If the heating element is defective and drawing extra juice that could trip the breaker. Usually replacement breakers are not too expensive if you electrical panel is less then 20 years old and can be purchased at most home improvement stores. I would try replacing the breaker before you try repairing the dryer. If you install a new breaker and the problem continues to happen then you should check the dryer heating element. That component is what draws the most amps and would be the most common one for tripping the breaker.

Dryer heat output is 148, but takes several runs to dry clothes

You most likely have a ventilation problem somewhere in your exhaust line. This can be very dangerous and a fire risk. You need to do a thorough check of your vent pipe and make sure it is clear and the exterior trap door is working freely.
