When I power up my zoom H4 ver 1.30 I get No Card. The card is there and is fine - I tried swapping cards. I was using rechargeable batteries at the time and was having difficulty getting a recording from a CD player to my zoom. Now I am stuck!

  • music458 Jun 25, 2009

Well, I tried swapping cards again just to see again what it would do. It had a 2GB SD card that it would not read, I swapped it with a 512 SD card I took out of my camera and this time it has read that card and H4 seems to be working now with that card. So I guess I corrupted my 2GB card somehow. Do you think I can re-format that 2GB card or erase in another device or do you think it's trashed? Thanks for your help.

The zoom seems to be unable to read the card, check that the contacts are clean and possibly try to pull the pins down a little so that they would touch the card better. carefully thought.

make sure there is noting blocking the reader. if that doesn't solve the problem.

The unit may require repairs, the board inside the unit contains very small parts making it extremely difficult to repair at home, and if the board is multilayered (many layers put together) the home repair is completely impossible.

Are you on warranty or outside of warranty?

Have you used 2GB cards before? it might not work with such big capacity cards and might require a smaller one like the 512MB card.

yes you can format the card on the computer by plugging it to a card reader right clicking on the removeable storage device that appears in your computer and selecting format, Fat or Fat 32 is most likely the format it uses. if one doesn't work try the other, you can compare the format on the 512mb card with the 2gb card and see if there is a difference, you can do that by inserting the card to the computer then right click on the drive and select properties, take a note of the details and put in the other card and compare the details.

My Zoom h4 has been struggling for a couple months now. Most of the time I get either an error message concerning the card or saying the card is full. Even when the card has been reformatted both on my pc...

Make sure the batteries are good... some people try to use re-chargeable batteries and because of their lower voltage they cause problems. First thing is to try new batteries.

Zoom H4 recorder ver 1.30 says no card although card is inserted?

Hi. Not sure you still are in need of a solution but since my machine was doing the same thing last night, and I was able to solve it, I thought I'd post anyway.
For my machine, which has a more current OS than yours (mine is 2.20 I believe), I was receiving the same message after transferring material onto the computer. What needed to happen was to reformat the card. If you press "menu", the click on "file" you should have an option to reformat the card. It worked for me and it now works.
Hope that helps!

My zoom stop recording after one hour with plenty of memery on my 16 gig sd card

Which firmware do you have? It should say on the screen when you turn it on. If it 1.10, or 1.0, you need to update the firmware by going to the Zoom support page:
http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4.php
Directions and firmware download is all there.
If you are already on 2.0 or 2.4, then try reformatting the card with the Zoom. This will delete anything on the card, so backup first!! Good luck.

Connect to PC does not work

You need to upgrade the H4  firmware from Zoom website
http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4.php

You will need an external SD card reader.

Zoom h4 not recognized by computer

Mac OS 10.4 and higher require the Zoom H4 to be upgraded.
Go to http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4.php#a and choose the download to version 2.20 that applies to you. The instructions are there, but it is a little tricky. You must download the upgrade to your computer and then transfer it to your Zoom SD card. To do that you need an SD card reader. I used my digital camera. I took the SD card out of the zoom and put it in the digital camera. I Plugged the camera into the computer and when the SD card icon appeared on the desktop I dragged the "System Bin" file from the download to the zoom folder. The rest of their instructions were pretty good. Good Luck.

Cannot connect to PC

Do you have an SD slot in your mac? plug the sd card there and see if it works. Erase manually the files (leave the system files) and try again with the H4. Luck

Zoom H-4

Ask your dealer, the one you bought it from. They may suggest an easy fix or guide you best on how to get it repaired, or at the very least suggest a place near you to have it repaired. If your dealer doesn't know, ask any Zoom dealer for repair info. Meanwhile, I assume you've checked your battery compartment to make sure the terminal connections are not loose (and of course that you've tried new batteries - :) ). Also, check Menu>Battery to see if alkaline or nickel batteries is checked. Finally, try removing your SD card and re-inserting, (even re-formatting the card, perhaps, but trying merely re-inserting first). But make sure any songs/info on the card are backed up first, because you will lose info if re-formatting the card. (For that matter, you could try a new card.)

Connecting / Mac / Tiger / Midi

I have just downloaded and installed the version 2.20 of the software for the H4 from the Zoom site. It solved my problem and the H4-SD card now shows up in the Finder as expected.

Note that I formatted a spare SD card to do this update in order not to lose any existing sound files.

Display reads "No Card"

Zoom h4 supports cards up to 2GB. And, I'm almost sure, this is a thing that can't be upgraded through software.

Zoom H4 Recorder Says, "Card Full!" But it is NOT!

I encounter this error with my 16 gb SD card and Zoom H4n.
I try to format the card inside and outside fo the Zoom, use 8 gb and 32 gb instead of 16gb card and, but get the same error.

But I find a solution.

1. I format my SD card inside Zoom with builtin utility. (Menu - SD Card - Format)
2. I reinstall Zoom firmware
(instruction and download here: http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/h4n/software/ )
3. I format SD card inside Zoom again.

I took a several test and didn't get a "Card Full" error.
