Question about Yamaha RX-V690 Receiver

Setting up a Yamaha RX-V690 home theater system

I need some help in setting up a home theater system. I have the following system.

Receiver: Yamaha RX-V690 (5.1)
Speakers: Polk Audio (2 front tower speakers, 2 rear and a center chanel)
Panasonic 50" HD-TV
Mitsubishi 5-carousel DVD player
Sony VCR

I have never assembled a home theater system, and was wondering if anyone has a schematic for connecting all the components. I also need help in placing the speakers in the correct positions (my room is 20' x 15'), and the TV is on the front right corner.

I'd greatly appreciate any help you may provide.

Thanks!

You almost have the exact same situation i am in. i have the same receiver, and going to purchase a panasonic 50" (th50px75u). i think what i will be doing is running a hdmi from my hd cable box to my tv, and installing an audio cable (red/white) from my tv to the receiver. i believe there is an audio input below the hdmi insert. i have polk audio, but theyare about 10 years old, they sound great, but just too large....and may be purchasing a harman kardon system. which models do you have from polk? i have the rt16's, cs350ls center, and fx/500 rears. let me know what you have come up with as well...as it has been a while since you posted this.

cheers,
sean

While on vacation my daughter was house sitting and my home theater set up stopped working. Specifically, with cable to my cable box and HDMI feed to the Yamaha RX-V465 receiver, I get good HD picture on...

If you suspect a setting was changed why are you tampering with the cables?

Get into the manual and go through every setting. Troubleshooting sections usually help. If it's just the Cable Box audio look at IT. Assign the port. If it's ALL audio start with the test tones.

I have a Yamaha HTR6090 receiver and tannoy speakers. I cannot get the sound to come out of the speakers. Tried all speaker connections.

Is this new equipment or a new problem?

Have you followed the instructions in the manual on setting up the speakers, sources, etc?

Is it source-specific? How about some clues.?Something must work.

I need to use my TV as the speakers for my system..what is the setting on the Yamaha RX-V465 to do this?

For what do you need receiver if you don't want to use its speakers?
As far as I know this is only possible for HDMI connections (when you have your DVD player connected to HDMI-in of receiver, and HDMI-out to the TV). Go to Setup menu / Func. setup / HDMI / Audio. You can choose there if audio from HDMI should be output on receiver's speakers, or TV speakers, or both.

Hi...
All the speakers are connected at both ends?
If so, you have a power amp electrical break.
Not an easy fix.
