Maxtor Mini 4 (250GB) is not supported on Vista Premium 64bit

Oil PC bit the bullet. Luckily I have all my files/stuff saved on this neat little gadget (Mini 4). Didn't ahve the s/w. You previous solutions helped, along w/Seagate giving me a site to download..BTW..you do need a certification code to unlock the website. Now that I've finally found the s/w to download, I am told it the Mini 4 s/w will most likely not work on the new PC w/Vista Premium 64 bit.

I suppose I could up load to a 32 bit PC (need to borrow one) and then copy all or most imoprtant files to a disk? Way too long and cumbersome.

Any other solution or a patch to make it work on a 64 bit system?

Microsoft tells it's 64 bit compatible:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=Maxtor%20OneTouch%204%20Mini%20-%20hard%20drive%20-%20250%20GB%20-%20Hi-Speed%20USB&v=Maxtor&uid=&pf=0&pi=0&c=Storage%20Devices&sc=Hard%20Drives%2C%20External&os=32-bit

you have an USB issue
try to download all patches for your 64-bit windows from microsoft

I have an other brain teaser! bought a laptop (sony vaio) it had vista on 32bit.i upgraded to win.7 ultimate. 32bit. could it be maybe it is a 64 bit base? nota geniouse but could this be why my bat

Beginning with the release of Microsoft Windows Vista, 64-bit operating systems are slowly becoming extremely prevalent in today's market. 64-bit operating systems are poised to eventually replace 32-bit operating systems entirely. At the present however, 32-bit applications still vastly outnumber 64-bit applications. Luckily, 64-bit operating systems are capable of running 32-bit operating systems. In 64-bit operating systems, 32-bit applications are installed to a second program files folder, named "Program Files (x86)." Programs installed in the x86 folder can be initialized just like programs installed in the regular Program Files folder.

Open the 32-bit programs folder. Go to Start > Computer > Local Disk (C:), then click on "Program Files (x86)." Open the desired program folder. The executable file for the program will be located inside the folder. Double-click on the file with the ".exe" file extension. As an example, for the QuickTime program you would double-click on the "QuickTimePlayer.exe" file. You have now successfully run a 32-bit application in your 64-bit operating system. Hope this helps.

I changed my windows to vista and then i tried to re-install my maxtor one Touch 4 mini 250 GB but the computer can not recognize it, so plz tell me what is the steps to re-install thx

By 'install' I think you mean install Maxtor Manager, but perhaps you have files which were saved by 'drag-and-drop' with the previous OS. These might be recovered the same way, even in Vista, if you can open the OneTouch from Control Panel. To use Manager with the OneTouch which had stuff saved via Manager with a different OS, you could first try to recover the files with Manager installed on another PC using the old OS version. Then format the OneTouch through Control Panel in Vista and with luck Manager will recognise it. If it does not, and you can see the drive in My Computer, then uninstall Manager (which might be corrupt) and try re-installing it. Regards Chas

I just built a computer with 16Gb of DDR2 RAM. What OS should I put on this baby so that I can actually USE all 16GB of RAM? I was going to go with 2008 Server but someone told me Windows 7 would support...

Hi,

Thanks for using Fixya.

Wow, 16gigs of RAM... thats alot!
Well, for you to be able to get full use of your 16gigs ram. You need to be using a 64BIT OS. Windows Vista and Windows 7 has 64bit versions. The main problem that you will encounter with using 64bit OS is driver compatibility with your devices. Hopefully all your components have 64bit drivers. I hope this helps.

Thanks and have a nice day.

My Type Artist won't run on 64bit Vista

most will have to be run in compatibility mode. movies on cd & dvd probably won't burn to cd (or run at all). they're too old for the manufacturer to post patches for vista support.

if the software is already installed on a pc, run the upgrade advisor to get more info on compatibility.

Vista Home Premuim Use with Maxtor onetouch

Software downloads are available from the Seagate support site. Here is a link to the download page for Maxtor OneTouch III family. It should provide the latest version of all software that came with the new unit, including "Updated software to run in Windows Vista. Also can be used in case the original software that was preloaded on the drive has been erased."

I purchased a Gateway LX-6200 with Vista Premium 64-bit tonight and my problem is that it won't recognize my I/O Magic 250GB "Gigibank" external hard drive. It worked earlier this evening when I loaded all...

Did you load software ? You have a 64 bit Operating System (OS) and MANY companies don't make 64bit software. 95% of PCs are 32 bit. This is same problem other external drive makers are having, Vista 64 bit was sold as "typical" PC when it's for very powerful users. Many "drivers" that talk to the equipment must be written for 64bit software. Check the companie's site to see if it's VISTA 64 bit compatible. Bet it's not ! !

Maxtor onetouch 4 mini usb 2

You cannot download drivers/software for the Maxtor Mini at the above URL. When you select the Maxtor Mini, you're redirected to a contact form you have to fill out just to get the software. Pretty lame on Seagate's part! I'll think twice before purchasing anything else from them.
