Question about Garmin nuvi 350 GPS Receiver

4 Answers

Satellite reception I have a fairly new Garmin nuvi 350 GPS and I turned it on on Friday and I had no satelitte reception. I turned it on and off during the day and I had the same problem. I even tried it this morning and it does not have any reception at all. What do you think is the problem? Or can you help?

I have experienced the same problem as well. It shows 1 or 2 red bars in the signal area. Rather than take any chances, I plan to exchange the unit. Someone else I know has the same product and has never encountered the problem.

I have the same problem and I am so frustrated!!! How do we return it? Mine was a gift from over 6 months ago. I thought that it was just a big waste of money, but then met someone else who has the same model and they didn't have the same problem.

I have had my nuvi300 for 1 year and it has given a flawless performance until a weak ago, now it can't find any satellites any more. Any ideas please

Had my Garmin Nuvi 360 for a year. Has worked flawlessly. Exactly one year after the purchase date I registered online, it has stopped connecting to satellites. This was in the MIDDLE of a drive. Here's what happened...

ODDLY, it was working fine, until a prompt appeared indicating that my Garmin was now a year old and I should consider upgrading to the next map product. I tapped "OK" (don't worry - my wife was driving) and suddenly, all connection to satellites ceased. Signal-wise, it went from all green bars to BLANK (not red) bars. I've rebotted, reset, and cleared error logs. Nothing works. Turn the GPS Sat signal. It asks if I'm indoors (No) and if I've moved hundreds of miles since my last connection (NO) and then asks if the date is April 1, 2007 (April FOOLS day? Are you kidding me?) If I didn't know better, I'd say that I was the victim of a virus.

Same problem as above users.  What's going on with Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS?  I didn't update maps either and now I'm having problems with "Lost Satellite Reception" all the time!  Does anyone have a fix or suggestion?

  • JDN52 Feb 08, 2008

I'm having the same problem with my Nuvi 350. What's the deal? I've "reset" it and "cleared" everything, and it's still doing it. I turn it on and in about 5 -10 mins, it announces and displays "Lost Satellite Reception", even on clear days with no precip in the air!

It just started doing this around Christmas time and seems to be progressively getting worse. Has anyone heard anything from Garmin on this problem? I'm going to try and contact them for suggestions.

Same with my Garmin, I have had it for less than a year, and now for 2 days now, it has lost satellite reception. I hate to do a "hard" reset, because I don't want to lose all my info. I am really directionally impaired and need my garmin, please help.

  • BUG130 Apr 06, 2008

trying to do hard reset, placed my finger in the left corner of screen, but is is upper left corner or lower left corner? either way, nothing happened. does it take a few minutes to get a responce?

  • clarkd1 Apr 10, 2008

I too am having the same problem. It will loose signal, find it for a couple minutes and then loose it again. Occasionally the system will ask a few questions:

    1. Are you indoors?

    2. Are you hundreds of miles from the last time used

    3 Is today's date......?

Being on the road often for work I have come to rely on this system. I really need a fix.

Having the same problem. Had mine about 14 months and then all of a suddenit lost satellite reception. For the next week, it would sporadically locate a satellite but would only work for very short time periods. Now a week after the initial problem, I can get no satellite reception at all.

    no satellite recpion

  • Anonymous Nov 03, 2008

yeah with my GPS I HAD the same problem. What we did to fix it was call the Garmin Support phone number, explain the problem. They took us step by step on how to fix it. we had to download the latest software update. They support person said that most of the time when the GPS can't track the satalite it is usually related to needing a new sofatware update found within the garmin website. Then after downloading the software restart the GPS and see if you can get the satelite. IF you can't get receoption you will have bacik up your data then perform a hard reset, then it should work.... hopefully, but for us it did!

I have being having similar problem as every one else. There is nothing wrong with your Nuvi. Garmin (the company is the problem) they are trying to make you buy a new map--Not Exactly Cheap--Do Hard Reset and solve all the problems.

1) Place a finger (Any finger, middle finger worked for me!) at the left lower corner and turn on the Nuvi unit a message appear saying "Do you really want to start up in maintenance mode?" tap Yes
2) At the Maintenace screen tap clear user data (this will restore to factory condition) and follow the instruction on adjusting your prefered setings.

3) turn it off and Repeat step 1, this time when you get to maintance screen tap on "Clear waypoints" and follow the instruction. Let it sit for about an hour then voila.

I had this problem as well. First time it happened, it cleared itself up after a few hours. The next time (about 4 months later), after 2 weeks, hard resets, and software updates, I finally just sent it in to Garmin. I was lucky as I had a few days left on my 1 year warranty... when all was said and done, I ended up getting a refurbished unit back (which I think comes with a 90 day warranty).

Ok I had the same problem you need to do a hard reset. turn off your nuvi 360 then place your finger on the left corner of the screen. turn it back on with your finger in place. It will ask you to do a hard reset then you want to reset the waypoints. Follow the instructions, this will be like you have never used the GPS before so all information will be wiped. Give it about an hour to find the SATS because it will think you are in Kansas.

My 265 wt was working fine until 2 days ago

I can help you reset and fix your Garmin Nuvi 265WT.

Erratic behavior is an indication that the firmware / system software inside your GPS has been corrupted.

Satellite reception is one of the issues addressed in Garmin Nuvi 265WT firmware updates.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265WT running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin 265WT WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

Unable to get satellite reception

Make sure you are not moving and that you are on an open field with minimal aerial hindrances. It takes time for the GPS unit to acquire satellite signal and makes it difficult to acquire when you are moving so make sure you stop at an open are till it syncs with at least 3 satellites.

hope this helps!

Satellite reception

I own & operate the electronics repair company, Westek Electronics in Nashville, TN. We repair & refurbish GPS units among other things. We have repaired many nuvi 350/360 units with this issue.

This issue is typically due to a hardware malfunction and cannot be remedied by software upgrades, resetting, etc.

Do this test:

  1. Strip a ¼” of a wire twist-tie end (the kind found on bread wrappers) bare exposing the fine wire core.
  2. Power up your nuvi 350/360 and confirm that you are not receiving any signal.
  3. While still powered on, insert the bare-wire end of the twist-tie into the center female external antenna jack located on the side of the antenna. If done correctly the external antenna jack will firmly hold the twist-tie in place. You cannot damage the unit by doing this.
  4. If you now have satellite reception then proceed to step 5. If you still do not have any reception then I have no further advice other than to try all of the update/reset procedures. If all else fails return to Garmin for repair.
  5. Once you have established that you have signal using the twist-tie, remove the twist-tie and confirm signal loss.

Your choices to remedy this issue is as follows:

  1. Purchase & use an external antenna.
  2. Return the GPS to Garmin for repair ($175 if its out-of-warranty). Or,
  3. Send your Garmin Nuvi 350/360 to us for repair. We charge $55 (return shipping included) to repair this malfunction. We can also accommodate this repair transaction via eBay in order to provide you with additional reassurance (an addition $5 is added to cover eBay fees, etc. when using this option). Our eBay ID is westek_electronics, feel free to review our feedback ratings. Our repairs are covered by a 30-day warranty. If for some reason we are unable to successfully complete the repair we will return the unit to you and charge only $10 for return shipping. To initiate your repair contact us at

Hope this helps.

Have you downloaded the latest firmware for the unit? If not, download the Web Updater from Garmin and download the latest version. This may help. Also, make sure the antenna is fully extended while using the unit.
