A/C hums, does not kick on

Penquin 630516 on RV replaced under warranty 01/24/06. This has a delayed start with controller managing two A/C (front and rear). The front does not kick on and emits a "hot plastic smell".

Sounds like you have either an bad Start Capacitor/PCTR or have burned out the controls of the front unit. Get on the roof and remove the upper shroud of the front unit. Access the capacitors by removing the cover on the side of the AC. The capacitor that you are looking at has a black "relay" attached to it. Visibly inspect this for electrical damage or charring. If so, replace it. If this looks fine, then put everything back and head inside.
Remove the inner shroud from the AC and pull down the control box. Remove the cover from the control box and inspect the 120V connections for ok. If they are burned, you can often cut them back to clean wire and reattach. If these look fine, remove the entire cover and inspect the 120V wires at the relays. If they are burned, replace the control unit.

Hope this helps,

The dometic roof ac humms when rv is on 110 ac unit was under warranty dometic sent a complete control board I changed control and stil have problem just like before. Dometic said one of the relays was...

not likely but possible. if they already had one bad board what's to say their production methods have changed since they made your last bad board. I have just had 6 bad compressors from this chinese company danfoss in one month! for only 2 freezers i have installed 3 bad compressors in each! nobody takes pride in production anymore they want the stuff to break.

Same as above problem

The hot plastic smell is usually a telltale sign that the Start Capacitor has gone out again. Remove the upper shroud and the cover to the access panel. You should be able to physically look at the PTCR to tell if it is burned. If all that looks fine, then from the inside, remove the inner shroud and then control box. Open the control box and inspect the relays and connections for OK. You problem is more than likely one of those two places.

Hope this helps,

Duo therm penquin 630215 went out, replace with what??

Actually thats a, Great Idea. And far Less Expensive.

1: The only thing i suggest is, Remember that a "Thermostats" Job is to Sense when the Temperature in the room is satisfied it Kicks off the Compressor, That is its Job.
2: The Front is Desinged to Cool Just the Front Area.
3: You Have 2 options
1: Close the Rear door when just Using the "Front Unit"
2; If you choose to Leave the "Rear Door" Open, Just make sure the "Rear Unit" is on Making the "Front Unit" Work far less.

You will be fine

Lexicon RV-8 wakupe failure

Did you try this....

In the event of a power outage, the RV-8 will display a BROWN
OUT!! PRESS STANDBY message. To turn the unit on, use the
STANDBY button. For more information, see “POWER
MANAGEMENT” on page 3-3....

"Setup" >> "Power Management"

Opens the POWER MANAGEMENT menu, which is used to automatically
put the RV-8 into standby mode during brownouts.
When set to ON, the RV-8 detects low voltage levels or a momentary
loss of power and puts the device in standby mode. In the event of a
power brown out, the RV-8 will display a BROWN OUT!! PRESS
STANDBY message. To turn the unit back on, use the front panel
STANDYBY button.

When set to OFF, the RV-8 will attempt to function during a
momentary power loss, however software settings may become
corrupt and need to be reset.
When the RV-8 is in standby mode, pressing the button turns the
unit on and activates all zones that were active in the previous
operating session.

The RV-8 does not power on.
1. Make sure the rear-panel power switch is set to the | (“on”)
2. Attempt to power on the RV-8 with the front-panel Standby
button and remote control On button.
3. Examine the power cord to ensure a good connection between
the rear-panel AC input connector and the wall outlet.
4. Check the electrical circuit and breaker.

Compresser will not kick in and there a electrical smell

Stop it!

Something has gone wrong and needs to be repaired. It's an electrical problem. The more you smell it, the more stuff is getting burnt. Take it apart and look inside it. Then restart it. The burning stuff will lead you to the bad part.
