Question about Nakajima AE-740 Typewriter

Beeping When we arrived at work this morning, and turned on our AE740, it just sat there a made a continous series of beeps. Depressing the keys did nothing, and the ribbons all seem to be installed correctly. The typewriter worked fine Friday until when we closed. HELP!

Re: Beeping

It didn't fix my problem, but I received the reset procedure from a technician. Here it is:

The reset function is

  • Insert paper, side ways from typical insertion
  • Turn off typewriter
  • Hold down Margin Release key and turn on. Once typewriter starts printing, remove finger from Margin Release key
  • Let print 2 complete lines of type and turn back off
  • Now turn back on and test if the clear worked

If the typewriter does not print and continues to beep, there is a physical problem. A technician will need to repair

Re: Beeping

If you check on the left side of the cariage inside, you should see a broken wire , thats why it does beep and dont move.
always the same problem you need to replace the sensor board for home position

Re: Beeping

It most likely beeping because it cannot make its resetting movement. That is,it cannot "find-out" where its left margin is. There may be something hindering the actual movement of the print carrier. Check inside the typewriter by lifting up the top cover and move the print unit by hand. It should be able to move from the left to right-hand side of the typewriter unhindered. The shaft that the print unit moves on should be clean and it may have gathered dust etc,so give it a wipe with a clean cloth (lint free) with a small drop of light oil on it.. Replace the top cover and switch on the machine

I have an IBM Wheelwriter Typewriter Model 674X and it keeps beeping at me when I type. Why is it beeping and/or how do you make it stop?

the beeping is the spellcheck option.. you just have to quit spelling wrong! Just Kidding. The dictionary is limited. You can turn it off by holding the 'code' key while pressing the key that says 'spell' on the top row.
