Question about Nakajima AE-740 Typewriter

3 Answers

Beeping When we arrived at work this morning, and turned on our AE740, it just sat there a made a continous series of beeps. Depressing the keys did nothing, and the ribbons all seem to be installed correctly. The typewriter worked fine Friday until when we closed. HELP!

Our power was out over the weekend, and my Nakajima AE-740 also just sits there and beeps with the carriage at the home position. Does anyone know what the reset code is?

Reseting the machine will not work and I cannot find anythign visibly jamming the carrier. I also looked for a broken wire and smae result. Am I missing something?

My 740 is doing the same thing. I tried pressing the margin release and then turning it on. No wires are damaged, but this beeping is still going on. The ribbon jumps up when it gets to the left margin and the beeping starts. My boss will not pay to get this typewriter fixed they are very anti-typewriter.Any other suggestions? If not I have to go back to this old Satellite 3 typewriter that I found sitting in the attic !!

3 beeps when you turn it on. If I power cycle quickly, while beeping, I get the single beep, and can use the typewriter, but it will not keep a file through a peer cycle.

It didn't fix my problem, but I received the reset procedure from a technician. Here it is:

The reset function is

  • Insert paper, side ways from typical insertion
  • Turn off typewriter
  • Hold down Margin Release key and turn on. Once typewriter starts printing, remove finger from Margin Release key
  • Let print 2 complete lines of type and turn back off
  • Now turn back on and test if the clear worked

If the typewriter does not print and continues to beep, there is a physical problem. A technician will need to repair

Aha! Found the problem. Apparently when the printer restarted after the power went off, something in the mechanical part of the head got stuck. I took out the ribbon cartridge and noticed that it always ended up in the "raised" position. I spun the print wheel using my finger, and the ribbon carriage dropped down to the normal position. Apparently, something got jammed in the print head on start-up, and just a gentle touch got it free again. Everything seems to work ok now.

If you check on the left side of the cariage inside, you should see a broken wire , thats why it does beep and dont move.
always the same problem you need to replace the sensor board for home position

It most likely beeping because it cannot make its resetting movement. That is,it cannot "find-out" where its left margin is. There may be something hindering the actual movement of the print carrier. Check inside the typewriter by lifting up the top cover and move the print unit by hand. It should be able to move from the left to right-hand side of the typewriter unhindered. The shaft that the print unit moves on should be clean and it may have gathered dust etc,so give it a wipe with a clean cloth (lint free) with a small drop of light oil on it.. Replace the top cover and switch on the machine

Ok,now if you can contact a Nakajima dealer you could ask him for the re-booting procedure which is usually done by pressing a key or combination of keys whilst turning on the power switch. you could try code key plus the on/off switch. good luck!

2004 BMW X5 4.4i Left lights on resulting in flat battery. Car was jump started from another vehicle (Ford Transit van). Everything fine for a few days. Now, intermittently the radio/sat nav goes haywire!...

sounds like your car has the multi function steering wheel, i know on the 7 and 5 series they come out of sync, im not sure why.
its about £75 to get plugged in at the dealers and they reprogram it, sometimes i have had the odd car with a damaged slip ring, it does all sorts of things, 1 in particular kept on beeping the horn,
i would say if u got 1 urs got upset when battery flat.

F24 Error code and incessant beeping

Being a software developer I guessed that the keyboard (the touch pad) was bad, because in my case one of the keys (the Top Oven OFF key) did not beep or work. So I went on the Thermador website and found the touchpad on the schematic. I ordered one yesterday from a firm called Mar-Cone in St. Louis, and it arrived today. It is a very easy replacement, and takes about 10 minutes. Happily it was a good guess, and it works fine. For the 27" SEC272BS/01 (stainless) the part # is 474083, and cost $189.20. They will express ship for $25.

Phew, we have 20 people coming for dinner on Thursday.

I'll be happy to let anyone know how to change the panel.
