Dell Dimension 4700 can not install Windows XP

I recently obtained a Dell Dimension 4700 Desktop from my parents company and decided to zero write the hard drive to get rid of all the business stuff (I do this with my laptop all the time). When I inserted the Windows XP disk to reinstall it, the computer fails to boot from either CD/DVD drive and says they can't be found. I have played with the BIOS with no such luck and have even tried two other XP discs. Any suggestions or advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated!!!

You've tried pressing F12 immediately after the POST screen and choosing your boot device? Do the drives show up in the BIOS, they are just not bootable or they don't show up at all?

Dear friends,

I have big problem with my Dell Dimension 4700 Series PC. I completely formated and reinstalled XP Window on C (maximum MB) and D. I followed all steps for installation...
1. I insert the Windows XP CD into the CD drive
2. I pressed <Enter> to set up Windows XP.
3. I pressed <F8> to accept the terms and conditions specified in the license agreement.
4. I Highlighted the largest partition C only and press <Enter> using the NTFS file system (Quick).
5. After the computer restarts, Setup continues with a graphical user interface (GUI) in the classic Windows theme.
6. Finally it says Installation finished and welcomed.

Here is the problem after installation
1. I tried to OPEN 'D' partition hard disk but it says it is not formated.
2. No Networking Settings screen appears during installation. I couldnt able to connect to internet with router.

Please help me what to do.
Thanks for your time and cooperation.
Alex

It looks as though when deleting the OS you might have gotten jacked and the rom drivers were lost.

Hello try to scan for malware, with this program:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

Please decline the pro version.

Try also to install microsofts own antivirus program:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download

Save both installation files on a usb disk.

Please uninstall any other antivirus programs, before you install this.

Run a full scan for virus, when the 2 programs is installed.
Start with malwarebytes.

Check also for driver updates here at dell:

Hope this will get you running again.

Reinstalled Windows XP no ethernet card

Hi,

It seems that after re-installing windows you have missed the Driver installation for your hardware. If you have a disk (which reads Drivers and Utilities) that came with your computer, You can insert it in your CD Driver and select the Driver for Network adapter. If you do not have a disc, you can always visit the Dell's support site i.e.:support.dell.com and Get the drivers suitable for your hardware by selecting the model or Entering the Service Tag of your Dell computer.

For your convenience I am providing below the link for Drivers for Dimension 4700 Desktop PC as you have mentioned.
Intel (R) PRO/100 Driver for Dimension 4700

Hope you find this information helpful.

This is very common after a fresh installation of the OS. Simply go to Windows Update and run it a couple of times. Upon reboot, the system will detect your hardware and you'll be back in business!
Good luck!

Dell Dimension 4700 - Driver Reset

1st you need to download or install all the drivers for your Dell computer. Try to use the drivers/utilities disks first. Once you can get online, go to Dell.com and look up your model 4700 and download all the missing drivers. Your Linksys Router is not a modem. The Linksys has the modem connected to it for wireless connections.

You have to go online and search then download the drivers for preparing SATA laptop harddrives for installation of Windows XP otherwise during installation it will tell you there is no hard drive found.

Dell 4700 Windows XP

When you installed onecare you have probably set it to only be for the user who installed it, not for all users. From memory (it's been a few months) there is a box when you are installing it to this effect.

Just reinstall the software and keep an eye out for the box.

Hope that solves the problem =)
