If you can get into it, it is just a coil spring that is externally or internally wound to a drum. Usually the tail of the spring breaks or comes off its anchor.
I don't believe it has a reset button but has an internal thermal sensor which shuts the motor off if it gets too hot. It will come back on when it cools down.
