well, I have called several places but they only do central air conditioning so I guess I am going to have to get a new air conditioner and create more waste by dumping out my old one - what a waste! (thought I could reuse, reduce and recycle)

Hi,

My advise call a tech.

EPA performs random inspections in response to citizen tips pursuing potential cases against violators. The EPA is authorized to assess fines of up to $32,500 per day for any violation of the Clean Act regulations.

Always take a wise decision.

Thanks.

    Hi,

Still if you want to know procedure :-

First you need to be EPA certified. You need to know what kind of
refrigerant. [ R22 R143a etc. ] On a home system a good set of gauges
and connect properly on a 22 unit low side is blue, suction line is
larger in size pipe. High side red smaller diameter. Connect both hoses
check pressures if their is no reading the compressor is not running.
If compressor is running on a 22 unit the high side red should be 225
to 275 should not go above 350 psi or it will cause damage your unit
more or cause a rupture low side should be from 60 psi to 80 psi don't
go any higher to much freon is no good and will cause higher temp. Be
careful because were talking high pressures you should have a certified
tech. do this if you add freon you must have a leak it dose not
evaporate their is no winter summer freon its a sealed system and
    should never need refrigerant.

You can add freon to the low side of your a/c. When the gauges are
attached to the system, you can use the third hose to attach to the
freon can. Make sure you leave the can upright so as to add only the
gas. Don't turn the freon can upside down to add liquid as this can
lock up the compressor and then you will have to call the a/c guy out
    to fleece your wallet.

    Detailed procedure is :-

Any further help, let me know.

    Hope i helped you.

    Thanks for using "Fixya".

SOURCE: air conditioner needs freon

If the system runs you will first need to add freon to the system (make sure it the right freon) Just enough to find leak. After you find leak and repair evacuate the entire system and weigh in charge. Hope this helps.

How do you add freon to haier window unit air conditioner

Window units do not come with service ports. You can buy them at local parts houses, but unless you have the freon, not gonna do you any good. Window ac use either r22 our 410a, and that cannot be bout without being certified.

How to add freon in a centralized air conditioning unit

The compressor needs to be running. Also you need freon charging guages and a pressure temp chart to tell how much you need to add.
If your not sure of anything i said here have a service person do this. You take a risk of damaging the unit and yourself.

Need to add 'freon' to my samsung window unit.

Hello, in order to add freon to a window unit you must add a piercing valve to then low side of the system. The valve mounts to the suction line and allows you to connect your gauges and add freon. Here is a link to where you can purchase piering valves. http://www.hvacr-tools.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HVACR&Product_Code=BPV31&Category_Code=VALVES

How do I recharge the freon in my unit? model is 38CKB060300

Hello, freon should be charged by a hvac technician with a epa card. But the way you charge it in is hook up the manifold gauges to the unit tjen take the yellow and hook it up to your refrigerant bottle. If this is a R-22 unit then you add vapor refrigerant to the low side of the system untill your superheat is correct if it is a fixed orifice system, however if it is a txv system then you chek the subooling. If it is a 410a system then the same principle applies however you flip the cylinder upside down and add liquid refrigerant through the low side a little at a time here is a link that shows you proper charging methods http://www.air-conditioning-and-refrigeration-guide.com/charging-air-conditioning-systems.html.

I have to window units that are not blowing out cold air. the fan works. is there a way to put freon in them or do you have any suggestions?

Hello, first thing is check the condition of the filter on the front of the unit, if it is dirty wash it and let it dry then reinstall it. Also, it is a good idea to clean the evaporator coil with a can of coil cleaner that you can pick up at any heating and cooling store. Just spray cleaner on evaporator coil and let it dry. If this does not solve the problem tjen the unit might be undercharged and will need a hvac tech to recharge it. In order to add freon you must add a piercing valve to the low side of the system since most window units dont have service fittings

Window unit not cooling how to put in freon

You have to put a piercing valve on the sucction side because this units don't come with service port, but if you going to add freon ,it is better to fix the leak before and after that replace the drier and vacum the system.
