One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scoll to ports(com&lpt)right click to scan for hardware changes or scroll to monitors + to expand plug and play monitor right click where you have options to update driver, disable.uninstall, scan for hardware changes or select properties where in the general you have the option to troubleshoot also in the driver tab you have the same options as when you first right click on monitor
click start control panel, display, desktop you can select a different desktop from the drop down list also settings you can change the settings for more or less pixels or from the drop down list pick the appropriate level of color range or troubleshoot also select advanced then general dpi normal size, larger size or custom settings
always click APPLY after making any changes

When i press cpu on button. monitor is not starting, nothing happen on screen

Problems that you experience most often occurs on the computer,
To determine whether this problem occurs because one of the hardware in your computer casing,
first, you must make sure that your monitor is 100% functional.
If it's been identified, and proved your monitor no problem, this means that the problem comes from the hardware in your computer casing.
ways to identify where a hardware problem,
you should make troubleshooting prior to each of the hardware in your computer casing.
troubleshooting steps.
> Open the casing cover your computer and remove the ram in the ram slot on your computer by pressing the two pins at the end of slot (Make sure the electrical power source is turned off first)
> Sweep ram slot with a small brush or small paint brush is not used (new)
> After cleaning the ram slot, use the eraser to clean the copper surface on the ram you are.
> When you're done, plug the ram in the slot. (If you have a new ram to do the troubleshooting is better)
> Reattach the power source on your computer and then switch on your computer.
> Still not working?
> If you use the display card, remove the display card and do the same as you did on your ram and ram slots.
(If you're not using the display card, the better you get the display card to make the process of troubleshooting)
>Turn on your computer.
(If your computer is still experiencing the same problem though has to do the troubleshooting on the display card)
> Get at / ATX new power supply to do troubleshooting, (damage to the power supply will also cause the computer not display
>Turn on your computer.
If the computer still can not function normally means that you have the problem still appears,This requires you to perform more detailed troubleshooting process. First, you need to provide a motherboard and processor is still working (new) to do this process. If you already have all the equipment, you can start to make the process of troubleshooting your hardware one by one.I believe there is enough equipment for you to perform troubleshooting, problem you will be able to identify you and you will be able to solve by itself.
good luck

I have a dell inspiron 1100 approx 7 yrs old. Try to start up, no display. LCD for power and battery (ac power) light up, no hard drive light. Reseated everything, still nothing. Also shuts itself down...

Since there is no hard drive light, you could try unplugging it first, and try to boot and see if there would be any display on the LCD. If yes, you already isolated the problem that it is the Hard drive causing the " no display".

Try to do also the following: (draining flea power)

1. Remove the battery and ac adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for at least 10sec.
3. Put back the battery and ac adapter
4. Turn on the computer

Hope to hear from you soon.

New build, everything powers up but no display

Does the system beep when you first power it on? It sounds like the on-board viedo may have failed you. Do you have any other PC's around that you can test the monitor with? If it is the on-board video, you can use one of the expansion slots available on your mobo. There's a PCI-E x16 and a PCI-E x1 available on this board.

I have a Motherboard gigabyte GA-8PE800. when i

The ATX 12v ( 4 pin Connector ) is For The CPU Power.
This could Indicate, either A Faulty CPU.
Or a fault To The Motherboards ( BGA ) or CPU Socket Holder.
Or alternatively, The Actual PSU Itself is Faulty.
You can obtain A CPU Socket Tester from e-bay. And A PSU Tester.

Hope This Helps Mike @ Compurepair.

Perhaps your power supply is not powerful enough for the new card.

if it does not respond at all......i mean no fan no lights no anything.....then double check that your power supply is good.....if it is and you are sure your chasis connectors are placed on the proper pins then you could have a bad motherboard or cpu.......of course more troubleshooting should be attempted before drawing this conclusion (removing one part at a time, etc.) but no power is never a good thing.

CMOS battery drains after one startup. Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI

OK lets see here! Make sure your CMOS jumper is set properly on the board(Set to Normal) or Did you configure your bios after flashing the bios(going into bios and Load Optimized Defaults!)? or I don't think it would be another device in the system, but you can try troubleshooting by starting up with only what you need to run the machine (Mobo, memory harddrive, keyboard and mouse) then one by one adding devices back! or Did you have problems like this b4 you flashed the bios! Try flashing the bios back to an older version! post back if anything new or if i'm way off! Good Luck regards, babb
