If the power went out while it was on it may have been given a surge. If that is the case the motherboard is going to need to be replaced. Check the power supply connection on the motherboard if it is discolored then that is the problem.

Try a different monitor (borrow one). If that doesn't work, you need to take it to the shop.

Hello, Im Daniel and i have a Gateway GT4022 PC Desktop. When i got it it worked great!! but then a year later when i turned on the tower all i could hear was the fan from behind it blowing? Can you tell...

do your keyboard and mouse light up, do they get power, is it only your monitor does not come on and the computer seems to do every thign else ok, or is it you only hear fan noises.

im thinking would it be the monitor at fualt,
would it be the graphics card came loose.
or is it the power supply gone.

How can i be sure that its the power supply or the motherboard that went bad? what can i do to find out?

If you have atx power supply, you can short the green wire with any of the black wires with a paper clip. if the power supply turns on, it is good.

I have a Gateway GT4022 that recently stopped working. When the power button is depressed, the fans will kick over for less than a second and then the system shuts down. It never gets to the BIOS and no...

Power supplies shut off automatically when one of the voltage wires is shorted to ground somewhere. This is why you see the fan kick over for a second and quit. This is probably a bad motherboard.

Gateway GT4022 Motherboard failed

Well, I think gateway is just a computer manufacturer, so if you are still under warranty, you could possibly get a replacement. But before doing anything, and if you are comfortable with doing so, open up the side of the casing, and take a look around, see if any cables seem unconnected.

My gateway gt4022 won't boot. I don't think even at bios. My monitor says that it does receives any signal. I try changing the power supply but I don't think its a power supply issue since the fan kicks in...

Here are different things you can try:

Make sure there are no loose cables
Try a different monitor
Press F8 when the computer turns on.
Check to see if the lights on the keyboard turn on: this means its posting.

No power except fan

It's your CPU. It sounds like you didn't apply the thermal liquid between your CPU and fan.

Computer will not turn on ?

Hi, first thing to check is the wall power outlet, plug your lead into a diferent outlet or plug a light into the same outlet to test the power. If this doe's not fix the problem then remove the left hand side cover from your case, turn the power on and see if you have a red or green led light on the motherboard. If you dont see this then your power supply has failed. If you see a light on your mother board and feel able then trace the wires from your on/off switch and unplug them and bridge them with a screwdriver to see if this starts your computer. if so then the front switch is dead. You would then need to replace the switch. Good luck, mistyman
