Question about Cameras

7 Answers

I can only turn on my Cybershot DSC-N2 while the camera is in playback mode. I can look at the pictures and videos and change settings with no problem.. but when I try to switch to camera or video record mode the camera turns off by itself. Sometimes the lens will come out and then the camera powers down with the lens stuck out. Other times it just shuts off before the lens even has a chance to come out. The camera has never been dropped or damaged.

If I press the reset button will my cameras internal memory be wiped?

  • kai686 Jun 25, 2009

    Any other ideas?

  • kai686 Jun 26, 2009

Why did this happen to the camera? Did the gear block zoom just go bad? Does that mean that it will happen again and again?

  • kai686 Jun 26, 2009

Can you send me a larger picture of the exploded view of the lens please?

  • kai686 Jul 01, 2009

I replaced the Gear Block Zoom (1100) and still the same thing is happening... The camera will turn on and the lens will move but then it turns off.

What else could be the problem? I am not going to send my camera in for repairs and end up spending $170 if I can fix it myself.

    Please help.

Hello, I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-N2 and it has been giving me problems lately. Ive had the camera for about 3 years now and just a few months ago it started acting up.

I can turn the camera on in playback mode with no problems most of the time, but the real problems start when I try to switch to picture mode or video record mode.

When I switch to those modes the camera shuts off by itself. Sometimes the lens will come out and sometimes it wont, but it always turns off within a few seconds.

I have replaced the Gear Block Zoom (1100), on another experts advice but Ive still have the same problem.

    Please help me out. Thanks.

[When I switch to those modes the camera shuts off by itself. Sometimes

For above said problem, zoom gear is replaced.
You can not say camera is in same condition. I have fixed many DSC-N2 and know what I'm talking about.
Please rate assistance accordingly and follow my previous instructions about flexible wire of lens assembly.
    Thanks.

I have had this problem for one of my local clent long back.we tried all possible things but couldnot find the problem initially.but finally we found out that it was due to mistracking on the main circuit board.the board was bit rusted inside and causing mistracking while using some functions and was going off.
you can open the unit and check the internal circuit if its rusted a bit then just clean it off and also resolder the whole board to get it function properly.it will get solved once board thing is solved.

thanks for using fixya.keep updated.

Some of these cams have more than one battery compartment. Make sure all batteries are alkaline because regular batteries don't stand a chance.

Try to reformat it. I think virus or unwanted programmed is in there. follow the instruction manual for formatting.

My Sony Cybershot DSC-N2 touchscreen will not work.

if the initialize and calibration settings cannot be accessed if the touch screen is not responding, try to power reset the camera: turn cam off, remove the battery, make sure the cam is not connected to an optional ac adaptor, set mode switch to play, press and hold down the power button for a minute, let go and turn cam mode back to off, reinsert battery and turn cam on. if touch screen is still not working, unit may require service. hope this helps. thanks:)

Sony CyberShot DSC-N2 - Unable to read memory card

Before anything else.... you must examine first if your card is not damage, How? Try to test it in the memory card readers or other camera that fit the same memory cards.
Some other cards do have lock option in the jacket of the card. Try to unlock it. After doing so reformat the memory card in to your cam.

Other option...... Some other cam do have internal memory, if you have the same, configured it out.

Cybershot dsc-w50 records movies instead of pictures

I had the same problem with my camera.  I found that changing the mode from Multi Burst to Normal allows the camera to take normal pictures.  Go to Menu and scroll over to Mode, then select Normal.
