Gateway Monitor Power Supply Problem

Hey,

I was given a Gateway Monitor MLTSC 50W 00899 from a friend because he lost the power cord and was too lazy to find a new one. I found a cheap one that fit at the Surplus Electronic store. The first time I plugged it in, the monitor worked in full HD. About 5 mins later the screen turned off and the blue power button just keeps on flashing, but gives me no display. Should I buy a better power cord, or is the display just plain broken?

Thanks!

I have the same problem. I just unplug it and reconnect. The display comes back. I have no idea why this is happening.

Here's some tricks I would try. Something here, might help...
1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your monitor on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.
Good luck.

I have a Gateway monitor that needs a power cord

Or you can just type in 12v 2.5A LCD Adapter in an Ebay search. You can usually find a bunch of buy now power supplies that come with cords for a decent price. I've been using one of these for a year or so on my monitor.

Can't get power cord

I assume this model comes with an external power supply- that is a package that plugs into the out let. you can buy at places like Wallmart a universal power supply, that has a variety of connectors and a switch to change the voltage. the connectors have a colour code and match the voltage slider which also has a colour patch. Take a look at the monitor to see if the operating voltage is mentioned- but is does not matter. what you do is take a connector- not plugged to the cord and fit it to the power inlet- you get several connector and only one will fit -the right one. Match the the colour to the voltage slide on the power pack and you are in business- well maybe - I bet first time it will not work That's OK simply unplug the connector from the cord and reverse the pins [reverse the polarity] come back
