Hi Kevin, Mate I had a look on youtube and all those 2.4L motors are belt driven... The two youtube videos links below are of a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L with a timing belt and the next is a Mitsubishi 2.4L sohc with a timing belt, I hope this helps.....CHEERS.

the 4 liter? the older jeeps had no spring load for the SERP.
and must be tensioned to 100 lbs force .

my guess is its 4L and with ac.
so ill answer for that.

i have a special tool to do this,
the PS pump sets the tension, not IDLER 1 or 2.
the PS on the one side has a huge screw adjuster just for this belt.

see this lower screw, bingo , no springs here ! the 2 bolts above must be loose !!!
