The pump should not shut itself off unless you have one of the newer 2 speed 2 phase pumps witch has its own proming mode. However a reason for loosing prime can be a simple pump lid O ring. It can also be the valves on the intake side of the pump. Try getting the pump going and the switch it off look and listen for leaks or air leaks you can either replace the needed O ring or apply 100% silicone to the leaking area with the pump on and that will seal the leak. Leave the pump running for 8 hours if using silicone. First start off by lubing the pump lid O ring you can use Vaseline.

check for fuel flow blockages including a blocked needle and seat in the carby. Remove the carby bowl and main jet and blow out any obstructions including water.
If you think that your pool cleaner has got too much suction, you need to use the included water flow gauge to test the water pressure. If it is MAX or higher than the indicated minimum, you will need to get a regulator valve from Hayware (V094). This will reduce your water flow.
the power relay activates the PCM, engine computer. The PCM activates the fuel pump relay that turns on the fuel pump with key ON. It runs for 5 seconds, then it shuts off, unless the engine starts. Can you hear the pump run (hum) in th fuel tank when key is turned ON?
Also, reset the inertia switch in case it tripped. Owner's manual will tell you where it is. Rest is pressing the buton.
this could be caused by a variety of problems, one that comes to mind is fuel pump electronics, its pumping to start when ign key is in start position but not in the running position. Also it could be the immobiliser, then again a fuel flow meter or the coil pack.To mess around with it on the off chance of hitting it first time is doubtfull, this is a case of hands on to "feel" the problem so i would suggest you call a mobile mechanic to diagnose it for you at least .
check to see if the pump is leaking, check it in the middle of a cycle you may see water or even suds. if so replace the pump.. before it blows the control board.
