Question about Acer Aspire 5500 5570-2609 Laptop
My Acer Aspire 5570Z laptop's power button doesn't work correctly. I have to keep clicking it a few times (yesterday about ten) before it decides to start up. I've never had a problem like this before. Any help?
Underneath the power button that you see is a small board with a tiny tactile button. These tactile buttons because they get used alot tend to go bad. They will get worn out and then eventually won't work.
Best thing to do is to go to this page courtesy of Acer:
There is a phone number there and they should be able to tell you if your laptop is under warranty. If its not, ask them the name of the board underneath the power button and its part number and you can search for it yourself on the internet to get the best price

The button ontop of your 5570Z is actualy just a glorified pin, it goes about 1/2" into your laptop and presses a little button on your motherboard, the button works by you pressing on the button you see on the top of your laptop, the "pin" on the back of the button going down and pushing a piece of plastic sitting overtop of a thin circle of metal with a concave in it like a spoon with the round side up, the pressure you push on your powerbutton causes the pin on the back to push on the piece of plastic ontop of the thin metal disk to push the concave in the disk flat, under this thin disk is 2 spots of metal with a piece of plastic between them, the thin metal disk alows power to flow through from one mettal spot under the disk, through the metal disk and then into the other spot creating a connection when the thin metal disk is pushed flat which then tells the computer to start or shut down.
Could be your not pushing hard enough to actualy flaten the concaved disk because you dont want to hurt it or the "pin" on the backside of the power button you see is missing the plastic button ontop of the mettal disk( its all held in place by a metal shroud).
I had ths problem on my 5570Z also, i just pulled it all apart and rebuilt it but it started acting up again, now i just use the end of a set of tweezers to jump start it where the thin metal disk should be
FYI about the 3 solder points on the front of the metal shroud around the plastic internal power button thats actualy on the motherboard, if you "bridge" the right most 2 (from the front view) it will start/shut off.
Also if you phoned acer and asked what board sits under the power button they would try and sell you a whole new motherbard for that model., some acers have a little "strip chip" which contains the power button and a few other things usualy like brightness and volumes but the 5570z is directly on the board.
Keep rockin them acers.
