My 2006 Cobalt has a loud grinding sound coming from the drivers side front tire the noise only happens as I push the gas pedal, soon as I let off the noise has stopped. Thought at first to be the cv joint but dont they generally show wear to the rubber boot when they go bad. from reading it sounds like maybe a bushing. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I dont really notice a difference while turning. I will say that while braking the tire moves more than it should in my opinion. I had it in the air and did not really notice any up and down play. I appreciate the suggestion though..

Sounds like a wheel bearing noise. if you turn left hard does the noise go away or get better? if you do the opposite is it worse?
when jacked up does the wheel have up and down play.

I think I misunderstood the question. the noise only happens when you accelerate. not when coasting. the wheel moves backwards when braking. Check your lower control arm bushings (separated from the lower control arm).

Try to look under vehicle at the lower control arms . When you brake or accelerate the weight of the vehicle goes back and forth . Therefore the bushings wear out . GM does not want a recall , so you have to purchase new bushings . Although , you are better off replacing the entire control are with the new ball joint pressed in already . The price is right too . Approx $150 . look on internet . If you have any problems feel free to email me at [email protected] . Good Luck !

Why noise in car when pressing on gas pedal grinding

It's the car pulling to that side? Sticking brake pad possible. When did you have brakes done last off at all? Front brakes go out twice as fast as rear brakes. If you can Charlie jack up that side put car in park, set emergency brake and chock rear tires. Pull off that tire and see if rotor is grooved or scored badly. It may have been sticking and wore down faster. Also check CV BOOT. If torn u joints get dirty and will grind. Hope this was some help.

I need help with a strange throbbing noise coming from my 2006 cobalt ss. The noise is coming from the passenger side and sounds like either a warped rotor, tire out of balance, or a wheel bearing going...

We can rule out the tire and rim since it blanced with no issues and I'm assuming no wobble was found during the balancing procedure. Rotors were turned, so we can factor this out also. The only component that can not be ruled out is the bearing, it seems fine, but we need to know that it is fine. Has the vehicle been jacked up and supported, placed in gear to see if the noise happens when the wheels are not touching the ground?

Hello fowlerfour.
I suspect the noise you are describing is a bad wheel bearing.
It consists of a hub assembly that is relatively easy to replace. It takes about an hour or less to do with proper tools in a good repair shop.
I would also suggest you get a quality hub as the cheap ones do not last long.
If it as loud as you describe I strongly suggest you get it repaired as soon as possible.
If you have another question for me leave a comment and I will respond to it.
