My Western Digital keeps asking to be formatted. I am unable to open the drive or reformat. What can I do?? I have a lot of files on this drive.

Hi, If you format the drive you will erase everything on it including your files. I would run your ant-virus you may have a virus on it. Second save all your files on a back-up disc. Then format the drive if you can. good luck.

My Book suddenly cannot access files, needs formating

If you are running Vista, You might be one of many people who are reporting an update that is causing some buggy behavior. Try this:

Connect the drive but do not Format the drive, right click 'my computer' then 'manage' go to 'storage/disk management' view the drives; your usb drive will not be allocated a drive letter. You can set one manually or leave it for about 2~5 minutes for one to be allocated auto. Each time you connect the drive you may have to do this.

External usb hard drive wont format on windows vista

Download a free disk partition manager from somewhere and use that to format it. Western Digital used to have some disk utilities on their website which would do it so it's worth looking there.

Cant connect my 1TB WD world edition to my linksys router

Your My Book World should not be formatted or you will lose all ability to access it through the Network -- it will simply become a hard-drive at that point. There is software installed on the hard-drives that communicate with your Router in order to obtain an IP and be available as a Network Drive. If the drive and the Router are communicating, you should see an IP in the DHCP list of your Router. It is possible that the My Book World is not setup for DHCP, so if it is placed in an alternate environment with incompatible static IPs, it won't be able to access the Internet or be available locally. You can try a hardware reset on the drive and see if it pops up in your Router's DHCP/Client list, at which point it should also appear locally and over MioNet (MioNet will need to register the device to an account before it will appear in MioNet, but it must detect the drive locally in order to attach).

1. Turn off My Book World
2. Identify the reset button on the back of My Book World
3. Depress the reset button while restarting My Book World
4. Keep the reset button depressed for about 10 seconds after you see blue lights on My Book World
