Question about Olympus Camedia C-5060 Wide Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera lens faulty

I have an Olympus C-5060W. When I switch the camera on the picture displayed in the flip up viewer is distorted irrespective whether I am inside or outside. The picture is mostly dark red in colour and is streaked vertically. On viewing any picture I take the picture appears the same. When I view any of the older pictures that were taken before this problem started those pictures are ok. Thinking I had a possible battery problem I bought a new one, this has made no difference.

Re: Camera lens faulty

This is a CCD problem.
It is possible that free replacement could on the card as there has been a recall on certain cameras of all makes in the past because of a faulty batch of these components used commonly.
Contact Olympus with the problem - you may get lucky

Blank display for olympus stylus fe-5030

Sound like a malfunctioning CCD-image sensor. Rare, but possible problem with your LCD screen viewer... in both cases (LCD or CCD) this isn't a job that you could solve yourself; this wrong include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card.

I suggest check THIS LINK for additional details in this previous solutions for an Defective CCD (Charge Coupled Device) and next contact your Olympus service.
I strongly suggest (taking into consideration the age of your camera) to evaluate the cost of repair versus the cost of a new camera with similar features, before making a final desicion.

Hope this helps

Dropped camera. The viewer works, the recorder works - but the picture comes out blurred. I can hear it trying to adjust itself.

Hi there the camera lens guide pin is damaged after drop down. Thats why you get a noise for focusing the lens but it did't focus. After that the result is blur image. You must change the guide pin from service center. After that it will work start properly. Thanks.70ed0c8.jpg

D80-viewer and display stay black, the flash

If your camera got moisture inside and you turned it on before it had a chance to completely dry (usually takes several days) you may have caused a short circuit.

Olympus FE-280

1 year warranty on olympus products, but does not cover physical damage such as impact, water, or sand

Lens doesn't retract when cover hits it. Only way to get lens to retract is to take out battery, put it back in, and then the lens slooooowly retracts, but will bounce back out if cover is closed...

The original problem was a camera with jammed lens mechanism or faulty lens motor. I think the camera had been replaced.

The following post is directed to new users following up on this thread, as the original problem had already been sorted:

When the lens will not retract and camera is not functional (no picture on display, and does not shoot) , and you already tried replacing batteries with a new fresh set (ensure please) , and then restarting camera with no memory card inside, then camera is faulty.

Try an easy fix by pushing gently the lens (do not force them, just help them) while you turn off camera at same time. Try also switching the mode selector.

If still no luck , then the camera must be disassembled to fix the problem.

Possible reasons are :

  • Faulty lens mechanism or jammed lens (camera usually turns off by itself in this case)
  • Main board faulty.
  • Ribbon cable to main board broken or connector defective.
  • If there is no power at all it is the connector from batteries to main board, this is also a ribbon cable.

If the camera is less than one year old will be replaced by manufacturer.

If your warranty is expired you can get an estimate for repair from manufacturer, or from a third party like Advance Camera here :Advance Camera Repair you can book the repair online.

Blank screen

This sounds like CCD sensor is faulty and should be replaced . Camera works fine in playback mode generally with this problem but not in capture mode ( camera has gone 'blind'). Should be repaired free of charge if the camera is as old as you say.

Camedia 5-60 pictures are black

Are you sure nothing is blocking the lens on the front? there is a slide that slides open and you can see the lens right? Is the camera in manual mode or auto? if its on manual flip it to auto to test. Point the lens at the light, does the display change? If you bang on the camera does it work? there are some connection problems with some sensors and they can flake out after a while and stop working. Sometimes banging the camera or twisting the case it will flicker or start working again. If it does the sensor is the problem. The screen could be cracked also. Do you have the tv cables with it? try to hook it to the tv and see if you get a picture.
