Question about Sony KP-57WV600 57" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

57" Sony Wide Screen Projection TV with a green hue

We had a severe "green hue" to the whole picture then we got advice on how to open the front panel, locate the six screws that adjust the 3 colors and the focus, turn the screw for the green until the green goes away, then adjust the red and blue to balance all three out. We did this and it seems to have fixed this "green hue" issue but we were also advised that this may only be a temporary fix that if the "green hue" returns again we may have a more serious problem that could be a number of things from a bad CRT, etc. Can you tell us what you feel about this issue if this fix lasts only a short time? And if this problem returns can we not just repeat this process again to fix it until we have the money to have it repaired? Or is there anyway we can determine for sure what the problem is and fix it ourselves or not??

Re: 57" Sony Wide Screen Projection TV with a green hue

You were given some pretty good advice but what you need now is a BK467 crt tester and the pin-out connections. Each tube, especially the green, will need to be tested for high/low emmisions and shorts. Don't take it on faith that having it rejuvenated will work for anything other than temporary either. You're probably lloking at replacing at least the green crt and it ain't cheep..
PS, don't kill the messenger either - - I don't like giving bad news and any shop you take it too will not relish in telling you what I just did.. I have 20 years in the repair industry and it's never pleasant telling a customer it's time for considering an new TV...

I have a 57" sony kp-57ws500 rear projection t.v.

the tv he mentioned is not plasma or LCD, it's rear projection with tubes.

brad, you'll have to take off the front panel. there are two phillips head screws behind two small round plastic covers, one at each end of the bottom of the speaker covers. remove those, lift the cover slightly, then pull down. be careful because the plugs for the front panel controls don't have much slack. unplug those and set the cover aside.

there is a rectangular cover to the tubes and focus panel. remove that, set it aside and you'll have access to the focus and alignment controls. the white markings on the knobs are factory reference marks. IIRC, the top is the focus and the bottom is the alignment. use a flashlight to check because it's marked.

make the adjustment as necessary to get a clear picture. =)

Picture Quality

Clean the lenses and mirror. - Carefully with no liquid, just a micro-fiber cloth. They can be accessed by removing the front screen.
There are items in the service menu that can tweak color drive and grey scale, but you can really mess up a TV if you do not know exactly what you are doing. You can also do a comprehensive convergence in the service menu.

Sony kp-57ws500 green screen then auto shutoff

I have the same tv and it did the same thing only now it has red hues all around the picture as well. The service guy told me it was the green tube and it would be about $500.00 to replace and may not fix the problem. What a p.o.s. I will not be guilty of buying any other Sony products from now on.

Sony Rear Projection TV - Red tube too strong

remove the front speaker assembly and the small access panel behind it and you will see a small square control assembly with 6 dials on it 3 control the color guns and 3 control the 3 gun focus. Try turning down the red control slightly they will be set up just like the CRTs red green and blue.
