Could be that due to the power surge. However, if the fridge is functioning properly without any other noticeable difference, I would just leave be. There could be a number of things that may cause the heat, including burnt wiring, improper voltage, etc, and it would be impossible o tell you exactly what without an on site inspection.

If you think the heat is too much, it may be wise to call in a repairman to inspect it.

Cheers!

Hi,
The section you are referring to is called the mullion. This section can get hot at times, it's not unusual. There is a tube that fits in this section that has the hot gas from the compressor running through it. This gas is very hot and the longer the compressor runs the hotter this section can get. The purpose of this tube is to keep the front section from collecting moisture. Older units had a heater instead of this tube. If the condenser coil gets excessively dirty this section will get even hotter. You can check and clean the condenser coil.
way to help keep it from getting too hot is to set the control to a slightly warmer setting. This will turn the compressor off sooner. If you load a lot of warm food in the refrigerator, it will cause the unit to run longer, to cool it back down and this section can again, get hot

Need to check to see if your condensor fan is running. this fan is located by the compressor. it will run at the same time the compressor is running. this fan keeps the condensor coils cooled off. if its not running.
Its a good chance your condenser is clogged with dirt/duct/lint/cat or dog hair or your condenser fan motor is either stuck or bad
If you feel heat/hot around the door opening of your refrigerator you should.... clean the condenser coils.... as a dirty condenser can make the tubing hotter than normal
here is how to do it....
The condenser coils ( hot coils ) should be cleaned once a year. If you have a pet with long hair, probably a good idea to clean yours more often...maybe every 6 months. Cleaning the condenser coils will save energy and help the refrigerator run better and more efficiently.
The simplest condenser coil is the static condenser, it runs up and down the back of the refrigerator & can be easily cleaned with a rag or vacuum cleaner with the brush attachment.
Some condenser coils run from the front to the back under the refrigerator. This means you should clean from the front and the back ( part#J ) of the refrigerator. The space on the front is often small and tight. A Condenser cleaning brush will assist in cleaning off the coils, or can be used to pull the dust forward and then vacuumed from there. To gain access to the coils on the back, protect your floor and pull the refrigerator from the wall, usually need to remove the cardboard or metal cover to clean up the coils from the back. If all of the hot condenser coils are on the back of the refrigerator, protect the floor and pull the refrigerator out from the wall to clean the condenser coils with a vacuum or brush from the back. If the bottom front opening is large enough, it may be possible with the coil cleaning brush to clean the back coils from the front.

check/clean & replace if necessary the condenser cooling fan ( # F ) motor, if the condenser fan motor is slow or has quit the yoder loop pass will get very warm/hot to the touch

If the condenser coils are clean and the condenser fan motor is running ok, check the fresh food and freezer section temperatures...if the refrigerator is not operating well and the temps inside are warming up, you could feel more heat/warmth than normal

do clik on the individual blue colored words if u need any clarification on them......

this is not a problem to be worried too much about... a very common problem and usually goes off once the above procedures are followed....

have a nice day.... and if u feel i ve been of help... kindly rate my service...

have a nice day... good luck and make sure everything is unplugged if ur opening up and have to replace the components....

Hi there,

Some refrigerators have small heaters in the pannels between the doors to prevent condensation there. Often there is a switch inside the refigerator where they can be turned on/off to save energy in dry weather. Maybe the switch was off all along and got knocked into the "on" position? If its really hot; maybe there is a short in the heater making it draw more current than usual.

There could be another reason, most refrigerators now have an electric heater which comes on to do the automatic defrost cycle, maybe it is stuck in the "on" mode?

Hope this initial info helps.

Frig is very hot on the outside ban that meets the seal

That heat that you feel is part of the design of all refrigerators. Those heaters are there to keep water from condensing on the outside of the cabinet around the freezer door. Just like water condenses on a cup of Ice water. It will do the same on a refrigerator. If those small heaters were not there. The water would cause the paint to rust badly. There are various arrangements of heaters used on Freezers and refrigerators around the doors. Particularly the Freezer door.
As long as the fridge is cooling properly it is fine.
If the fridge fails to get cold, the outside of the cabinet will actually get quite hot.
Hope this helps,
Best, Mark

Exterior panel between freezer and refridgerator that magnetic strip sticks to is very hot.

Have seen it many times before especially on Whirlpool fridges before. It is not detrimental to the running of the fridge but has the tendency to warp the door fridge seals. In my opinion, when the fridge was piped up, instead of running the high side (hot pipe from the compressor), through the radiator first and then to the fridge body, they have done it in the opposite way. As a result, All the heat from the compressor is going firstly into the fridge frame to eventually exiting and then going to the radiator.(Thats why it is so hot between the doors). To rectify this, you need a technician to swap the pipes over at the back as already discussed, then regass..

Whirlpool fbb36af20/2 fridge freezer frame of front fridge freezer getting hot, fan at bottom back stoped working replaced fan but when you plug in new fan it starts to work but when you fully push the fan...

Hot frame is mullion heaters. Keeps moisture from forming on door and causing rust. Sounds like the connector is defective, remove connectors and wire direct. If fan won't run then you need to call a qualified service tech.

Center front partition is very hot!

Either your coils are dirty ( clean from the front after removing the kickplate , only what you can get to ) or , the condensor fan motor is bad ( motor which cools the compressor ) .

Panel between fridge and freezer very hot and no sound at all

Hi: Its just a coincidence you noticed it then. It is usually hot. It's the reverse side of the refrigerant (the hot side.) If you lived in a humid area the fridge would sweat. Water would run down between the doors. I live in a dry climate so no worries. Older fridges used an electric heating element to keep them dry. They also had an energy saver switch to turn it off. As Whirlpool uses the hot side of the refrigerant they don't use additional power to run the heater. Actually the heater is called a mullion heater. Nothing is wrong with your fridge. I'll look over my shoulder for angry retailers. Hope this helps, Jeff.

Overheating, seals on Roper side by side are hot to the touch

Hi, When that strip gets hot, it is a sign the temperatures are not cold enough. Put a thermomitor in the freezer. You should get a reading of 0 to 5 above. If not, let me know and we can try and get you through this.

Thanks
Vic
