sorry the post wasn't quite right. my power button and speakers quit working. the quicktouch buttons do. I've read the advice to get a new cable to replace the one under the power button, but how do you get access to the power button? Thanks

  • michellek331 Jun 26, 2009

my speakers quit working before the power button did. I'm wondering if i replace the cable for the power button if that would fix the audio? if not, i'd at least be happy to know how to replace the ribbon cable to the power button.

do you just want to get to the power button? If not then the whole thing needs to be taken apart to get at the audio as well

This is a common problem, the cable that connects the button board to the system board goes bad. Usually but not always the power button stops working as well and the speakers. Replacement cables can be purchased on eBay or from: www.2fix.net. Its fairly easy to replace the cables.

The screws for the panel with the power and Multimedia buttons are located under the battery. Remove the battery, then the 3 silver screws. You also need to remove the keyboard to get to the other end of the cable. There are 3 black screws to remove; 2 in the battery bay, and 1 in the memory bay. The keyboard screws are identified ay a small keyboard icon.

You need to remove the screws on the under side along the back. (anything that looks like it may reach through to the power bar). Then gently with a plastic pry bar pry up on the power bar starting around where it covers the hinges and work your way around. Be careful cause they do crack. Also the power button cable is very short.

The power button in my Gateway laptop MT6451 got pushed it can't be accessed from the top. How can it be accessed from the button?

Quite easily Sergio

The plastic Power On button you see, presses against a carbon button Power On switch, below it.

I suggest removing the Switch Cover, and then you can access the Power On switch's carbon button, and press it down to turn the laptop on.

You can also, then see about repairing the Power On button assembly, or replace the Switch Cover.

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter {Charger}, and Battery.

2) Laptop closed, laid on it's top; Bottom side up.
Turn it so you are looking down in the Battery Compartment, where the Battery was......

Down in the Battery Compartment are 4 Philips head screws to remove. You need the smaller No.1 Philips screwdriver, or the equivalent Jewelers screwdriver.

Here is the Base Enclosure, (Bottom Cover), not installed on the laptop,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/39MA7BATA10-Gateway-MA3-MT6451-Bottom-Case-Cover-39MA7BATA10-Genuine-/321101430142?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ac322fd7e

There are 4 views. The page automatically opens, with a Bottom view, and the Battery Compartment at the top.

SET, your mouse cursor in the middle of the photo. This allows the Zoom In feature.
Go to the top where the Battery Compartment is, and view the 4 holes going along the Top.

This shows you where the 4 screws to be removed are.

Same design, different Gateway notebook,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-keyboard-from-gateway-mt6704-model-ma7/

Go to the third photo down. Has two screws circled in Red.
I just want you to look at the Battery Compartment. (Not the red circled screws)

Look under the whitish - www.InsideMyLaptop.com -
You can see the first two screws pretty visibly. Almost make out the 3rd one, no to the 4th screw.

Once these 4 screws are removed, turn the laptop over.
Open the laptop.

Now you are going to remove the Switch Cover.

In the above link scroll down to the 5th photo, and 6th photo.

This video also shows you,

From 0:45 to 0:47
Please use care when removing, it is plastic.
The video has been sped up.

This is a look at the Switch Cover removed,

Cannot find the screw that secure keyboard on an everex step note laptop

Sometimes the keyboard is held on with a screw in the center, accessed from the bottom of the case. In most cases, though, the keyboard is held in place by 3 or 4 screws just above it under the bezel that you just removed.
I've also seen keyboards that are held in place by little clips at the top of the board and you need to push the clips in with a small screwdriver to release the top.

Advent t9307 power switch not working

Your laptop's power button sits directly on top of a device called a power button board. This is a small circuit board where all power and control buttons interface with your laptop's motherboard. The repetitive use of the power and control buttons can damage the power button board. Repairing your power button means removing and replacing the power button board, which requires partial disassembly of your laptop.

1.Power down your laptop. Unplug the AC power adapter and all external devices from the computer. Close the laptop's LCD panel and place the laptop face down. Rotate the laptop so the front opening edge is facing you. Remove the battery pack from its compartment on the laptop's bottom side.

2.Flip the laptop over, and pull open the display panel as far as possible. Use a thin, flat-head screwdriver to pry the keyboard cover from the laptop. The keyboard cover is the plastic piece situated above the keyboard assembly that houses the power button board.

3.Lift the keyboard cover out of the laptop slightly, and disconnect the cables extending from the power button board to the motherboard. Remove the keyboard cover from the laptop.

4.Place the keyboard cover face down on a flat surface. Remove the Phillips-head screws fastening the power button board to the cover, and remove it. If your speakers are situated inside the keyboard cover, disconnect the speaker cables from the power button board before removing it.

5.Place the new power button board inside the keyboard cover. Align the screw holes on the button board with the holes on the keyboard cover. Replace the Phillips-head screws fastening the button board to the keyboard cover. Reconnect the speaker cables to the button board, if necessary.

6.Reconnect the power button board's main cable to the motherboard. Place the keyboard cover back inside the slot above the keyboard assembly. Press down on the cover until it snaps into place. Replace the battery pack and reconnect all cables.

No sound

This issue could be caused by any of the below reasons.
  1. Sound card does not work
  2. Speakers are not connected properly
  3. No power to the speakers
  4. Volume on speakers turned down
  5. Volume on sound card turned down
  6. Bad hardware
  • make sure the speaker setup is correct. It is possible that during an installation of another program that the speakers software setup was changed causing issues with your sound. To do this follow the below steps.

  1. OpenControl Panel
  2. Open "Sounds and Multimedia Properties" or "Sounds and Audio Devices" in Control Panel.
  3. Click the "Audio" tab
  4. In the Audio tab click the "Advanced" button under "Sound Playback."
  5. In the Advanced Audio Properties window make sure your speaker setup is correct. If you're not sure what to set this setting as, set it to the default "Desktop Stereo Speakers" option.
  6. If you changed this setting click "Apply" and close out of all windows.
  • Ensure that the sound card works properly by connecting either another pair of speakers to the computer, or a pair of headphones.

  • the left speaker will generally have a cable that cannot be removed from it. This cable should be connected to the other speaker (generally this cable has no color or is white / gray). The next cable is the line out cable, it is generally green in color and should go from the right speaker to the line out hole in the back of your sound card.
  • Finally, the power cable generally should be connected to the back of the right speaker, or in some cases, the sub woofer. The power cable can vary; while most speakers are in the above configuration, some speakers may also not utilize a power cable connection but instead have batteries, while other speakers that connect to the side of your monitor may use a portion of the power from the monitor itself (via another type of cable).

  • Most speakers will have a small LED (light) indicating if the speaker is on. Verify that if this light is present that it is illuminated.
If no LED is seen or the speakers don't appear to be getting power, verify the power cable is properly connected to a working outlet or if your speakers use batteries that the batteries are good. Finally, most speakers can be turned on either by using a button or by moving the volume knob from left to right.

  • Verify that the volume knob on the speakers is properly turned up. If you are un-certain what direction to turn the knob, play a long sound file or CD and while the sound is being played, adjust the knob left to right or up to down.

  • The sound is also able to be turned up and down through the software installed on the computer. Verify the sound settings in the software are properly turned up.

  • Finally, if all of the above recommendations do not resolve your issue and connecting another pair of speakers or headphones to the computer does work, it is likely that the speakers are bad. It is recommended that you contact the manufacturer of the speakers or computer for a new replacement.

Speakers

Packard Bell (160248-01) Computer Speakers with a 12 volt power source worked OK,

Tried a 9 volt and it also worked.

This pair of speakers is grey with a barrel design. The mounting surface placed flat is approximately 10.25 inches by 3.75 inches. Each end has a rainbow design with a depth of 2.75 inches. By placing with the mounting surface flat on your desk gives you an out of the floor design. The front edge from the desk to the bottom edge is 1.5 from the surface to the top edge with a 3.75 inch. Suggesting you may mount them under your desk, on the side by your legs or stand them on each side of your screen.

I am told they come in white and black also I found them rather large for what I need but your decision is you should be happy before buying a pair.

Hi,

This is Vikram Kumar Thumu, from India-Hyderabad. I have seen your message on the issue. I would like to provide my solution on the issue.

Well, this is issue not a hardware issue since you are able to hear sound by Ear Phone. This is an issue with either Conflict of IRQ or could also happen with driver of Audio is not working fine.

Please open the below link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00833257&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=3256602

it is an HP article that is applicable for Notebooks with Windows Vista... this article helps to resolve the issue related to Sound...

In Most cases the issue will resolved once if DRIVER of SOUND is uninstalled from Device manager and then by reinstallation...

I am sure that this will resolve the issue.

Note :

If you are using Windows XP, please let me know so that I can search for article for Windows XP and provide you solution...

if you have any queries on the issue, you can mail me at thumuvikram@rediffmail.com. I'll be glad to help you!!!
