There is few bugs in software and some menus just disappears if you aren't fast enough [moving that yellow thing to another position]I have tried that firmware that were originally on that box and latest
-Main problem is that Horrible sound that this machine's dvd-drive makes when it reads or writes a disc! It just makes it impossible to wacth any movie without putting sounds to the maximum.

It makes very much noise because of the HDD. The channel list of the tuner is erased when the unit is unplugged.
I solved some problems with a firmware update, but I'm not very happywith this.
After the last update.. (197, last monday) I had many problems with the video signal in the SCART to the TV while the timer was working.
The menus dissapear or changes the option quickly if you don't press quikly the button in the remote.
I had problems with DVDRW discs. I had to reformat one in the PC because it was erased, but the unit does not accept it and the PC said that was blank. It does not include XviD support!! The RedBell DVR80X have a 80Gb HDD but supports XviD.

This is repeatable. Only option at that point is a menu reset.

Network is hardwired: Netgear WGR614 router, DSL modem, AT & T Elite DSL.

The buffer gets flushed a seemingly
random times. When catching up to real time on a recording and exiting,
recording restarts at beginning rather where I left off (old "fix" of
rewinding a little prior to exit keeps recording from restarting).

I guess you mean a Set Top Box to convert digital TV transmission to old analog TV. Choose the correct video format for your screen.
Ah... Perhaps Your recording at an old standard & passing it to a modern TV or HD TV with the digital output from 1080 HD to 720 or lower still.
OR
Get a Digital Hard Drive recorder.....

The modern way to Record video is to use a Hard Disk Drive Recorder rather than a VCR. They have a built in tuner and can record 2 stations at once and have a built in Electronic Program Guide. The EPG info is transmitted with the Digital TV transmission from the broadcaster.
I bought one 2 weeks ago for an old 85yo friend so he could record late night stuff and play back later. He still uses the VCR but only for old VHS Tape playback. It was a TEAC HDR9650TS Digital Video Recorder and I picked it up new for Aus$188.
Here are the unit features
Main Features:
DVB-T Twin Digital Turners
DVR Recording: Record three channels while watching a 4th from same network Smart Series Record feature to record a whole series at a touch of a button
2.5" Sata Hard disk: 500GB
Time Shift Function (Pause live TV)
HDMI Digital Output
Digital Audio Output
CVBS/YPbPr/SPDIF connectors
Supports TV formats 4:3 and 16:9
Electronic Program Guide (EPG) up to 7 days in advance
EPG searching and auto download
Recorded program edit
Parental Control
Copy files from internal HDD to external HDD
Built-in WiFi
Network Playback
USB 2.0 Interface

Magnavox MDR533HF7 timer programmer records wrong channel sometimes

You have to record some channels manually and you can not use the timer. Since TV went digital the channels are not really on the channel that you see. Where I live channel 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, and so on are really on channel 35 and 45. This tuner has a hard time with these channels because they are not on the station that you see and it does not look like this will be fixed.

Came home to find HDD full and camera recording stopped with monitor saying No Signal. Checked and HDD is formatted though overwrite doesn't seem to be working yet the box for it is ticked. All cameras...

Adjust your settings to continue recording when the hard drive gets full. If 'Overwrite when full' is enabled, the system should start overwriting the oldest data when new data is recorded. Note that these are two different settings: 1) Continue recording (or do not stop recording) when disk is full and 2) Overwrite when full is enabled.

Hope this helps.

How do I pause when recording?

I understand that you wish to Pause and Continue recording to record several scenes in a single file. Unfortunately, HDD Camcorders(regardless of manufacturer) do not have the option to pause and record in a single file. Once you press STOP, it will save the current file and When you press the Record again, it will start record as a new file. This is because of the characteristics of the HDD media. If you wish to have the video as a single file, please use a video editing software to combine the videos.

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require any clarifications.

How do I record information, shut the recorder off then go back to the same spot and continue recording information so that all the information is all together?

Most digital voice recorders, have a filing system. It is usaully labeled either: A, B, C, D or 1, 2, 3, 4 (these are the main folders) and each of these folders contains a set amount of files (in most cases about 99 subfolders). So you can have folder A file 1, 2, 3 and so on... When pressing the RECORD button for the first time you are in one of the main folders and your recording gets a sub folder number. To continue recording where you left off last time or where 'stopped' use the PAUSE and not the STOP function. The moment you press STOP instead of PAUSE you will change the sub folder number - and therefore not have one continous recording. If you turn the power off or remove the batteries you will also change the sub folder number. Most of the better recorders have a voice activation function that places the recorder on pause automatically when there are no sounds. It will not change the sub folder number when it starts recording again - and will automatically pick up where it left off.

I have an Olympus WS-311M but cant record after playing back file

Unfortunately that is not possible with this recorder to be able to replay a part of a recording and record over it. If you pause it will just allow you to continue from the point where the device was stopped. You might want to check out the DS-2300 or the DS-2400 model recorders as those devices have the ability to do what you are asking.

Hello! My Philips DVDR5350H/05 randomley records for 6 hours. The only way to stop this, once the recording has started, is to go into the system menu and select the option to remove the time shift...

Hello. This is not a fault. The DVDR5350H's Hard Drive (called Time Shift Buffer) begins recording (for up to six hours) as soon as the unit it switched on and only clears the 'temporary' recordings when it is switched off or you switch to 'Cam' mode on the remote control.

Like Sky+ and Freeview+, the continuous recoding enables you to save, pause and rewind live TV (this could also apply to Freeview or any source that you may have connected to the EXT1 and EXT2 SCART sockets. In other words, if you are watching TV or anything connected to the 5350 while it is switched on you can keep it without even having pressed record in the first place (pressing OK on the remote control will show you how).

It is normal for all HDD recorders with a 'pause live TV' function to record whether asked to or not.
