Have a fridge where the defrost isnt working at all , rest of fridge is , suspect control module is damaged . Does this mean defrost element should be replaced as well ?

Probably not. But you can check it with an ohm meter. If infinate resistance or "open", yes it's bad. If some resistance it should be good. Check with several appliance parts and troubleshooting
stores, usually they are quite helpful. They know their parts.

Defrost Cycle on Fisher and paykel RF610

Malcolm, if you are indeed getting an F20 fault, this is a problem with the flapper heater. The flapper heater current is low.

First, Check the JST in-line connections for the flapper heater.
Second, Check the resistance of the heater. If open circuit, replace the heater.

Whirlpool refrigerator freezes, but not cold enough in lower part. I performed the steps to determine if its a faulty timer, defrost resistance or thermostat. If the refrigerator cycles on and off normaly,but...

Yes by advancing the defrost timer to the defrost mode and the heater not come on the defrost timer is good and it will be either the defrost heater or t-stat

When checking the defrost heater using a multimeter set to measure ohms of resistiance the defrost heater should measure to be appx 10-20 ohms if good and infinate ohms if the heater is defective

If good the defrost thermostat will be ZERO ohms...please note when checking the t-stat it MUST BE CHECKED WHEN COLD so its best to check it when frost is built up on the evaperator (freezer)coil

Refridgerator problem

Maybe the heater was ok all along. There are two micro-temps in line with the heater which go open circuit under excessive heat conditions. These are located at each end of the connections to the heater element. Check these to see wether they are still closed. They cannot be reset and have to be replaced if faulty/open circuit. There is also a defrost thermostat/terminator in the heater cavity which should be closed under cold conditions. Best time to check this thermostat is when the evaporator is full of ice.
