Sony DSC F717 'C:13:01 Memory Stick Error'

I have a Sony DSC F717 with the flashing "C:13:01 Memory Stick Error" I have had the camera in for repair locally & they have cleaned & serviced it - (it is not the memory sticks, they work fine in other devices) - they are telling me that it is the main circuit board of the camera that needs replacing (which no-one can do in this state) & needs to be sent away for replacement. I have googled this on the web & have come up with a variety of solutions from formatting the memory sticks on the camera, using an eraser to clean the memory stick, inserting the MS rapidly over & over into the camera to giving the camera a hard knock or thump. All of which I have tried (although not sure how hard is hard for the knock) & none work. Have you heard of any other solutions apart from sending the camera away for a new main circuit board??

I have been using a 512MB stick for the past 7 years. I also have a 32MB stick which originally came with the camera. Both were working fine up until a couple of months ago. I tried the solution on this site : http://batteringram.org/misc/f707repair/ but it did not work. Any other suggestions for a FREE repair :)

The Sony DSC-F717 will only take upto a 256MB Memory Stick - larger size Memory Sticks will give the C: 13:01 error. Use a correct memory stick and your camera should be fine. Regards, Andrew

I see the same type of reports on the internet for just about all types of Sony cameras.

It can occur when a memory stick goes bad or when the camera memory stick reader has a problem.

First try a reset of the camera.
You will have to check the User's Manual to see how to do this.

Next try a new (or different) memory stick and see if you get the same bad result.

If you do, it is likely the problem is in the camera.

Sony will probably want about $200 to fix the problem.

C:13:01 error code means memory stick/ card is unformatted or broken memory stick/ card. please format memory stick/ card, this option is available in camera menu and try again.
If problem still there, use another memory stick/ card.

try a different memory stick, if no problem with the new stick, use a pc to run a quick format on the old memory card... should solve the problem.

Memory stick error

This is a problem with the battery connector inside the camera. It is common to the DSC F717 and this camera. It's, unfortunately, a pro camera repair issue on the 828. It can be fixed DIY on the 717. I did it to mine and now it works fine.

Memory stick error

Try using another memory stick, or insert a confirmed good memory stick, if OK, the memory stick is defective, if the same error, try pressing reset at the back of camera, a small hole beside the the DC jack. if OK, then fine, if still the same, camera needs repair. thanks
