Accuracy issue with Garmin Oregon 400t

Just got the 400t. The accuracy looks to be horrible (10x what it says on the sat screen). Did a track in a known location and track is consistently off by 300' due north (or due south depending on whether base map is off or coordinate collection is off). I have changed datum back and forth from NAD84 to WGS84 and no effect. There doesn't seem to be any info on the datum for the base map. Can you help?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

My nuvi1460 touch screen sensitivity and accuracy is poor. I touch one button and the function of another button is activated. How do I recalibrate the screen accuracy to touch, please?

You should check if a screen protection film is still on. If so remove it.

Next is to calibrate your screen following Garmin procedure
Turn off device.
Press top left corner of device an hold.
Turn on while holding pressure, once device starts, release start, but still hold the pressure for 10 seconds until a screen is appearing with "press dot"

Updates for garmin sat nav

To increase the accuracy of your Garmin Nuvi 205W, I recommend you use Garmin's WebUpdater service to make sure you have the latest software on your device. Software improvements for acquiring satellite lock and location accuracy have been made.

I hope that helps.

Have a Garmin Oregon 400t. It does not want to recognise maps stored on the SD card. If I connect the Garmin to computer, I can read the files on the SD card but when I look to select the maps, they are...

Memory Maps are for PDA's only, not for Garmin GPS units. If you purchased these from Memory Map, contact the company and request a refund due to hardware incompatibility. Maps for the Oregon are from Garmin (purchase) or Ibycus (free).

Language setting wrong on Garmin Oregon 400t

1) Go into setup. This is the icon that looks like a wrench.
2) Use the arrow buttons to scroll up to the top of the list
3) Select the second item down (GPS will be the first item)
4) Scroll to the top and English should be at the top of the list.

Wrong language on garmin oregon 400t

I called Garmin for this very same reason. The answer is; while your GPS is off place your index finger in the upper left of the screen, turn on the GPS, a screen will come up and ask if you want to clear the GPS (or something to that effect), say yes. (Yes is the top button) Then you can choose english. YAY!

Innacurate Garmin Nuvi

The accuracy of your garmin is actually good. The accuracy is only as good as the accuracy of the addresses that Garmin got from every municipality.

You can not recalibrate the unit but you can reset the "home" setting by parking exactly where you want to call home and then setting that location as home.

Please rate my answer as a FixYa! Thanks

Garmin summit hc seems to be off by more than 300 feet

First of all make sure your etrex is not set up to follow roads (if it has that facility). Maps are not always accurate particularly edges of lakes and forest boundaries. If your etrex can only see a few satellites then accuracy will be degraded. Make sure your body is not shielding the view of the satellites by holding the unit away from you. The accuracy of any GPS is affected by the relative position of the satellites with respect to each other. If they appear (at your location) to be in a straight line then your GPS cannot perform the trigonometrical calculations to determine your position with any accuracy. In GPS speak this is called DOP - Dilution Of Precision and can result in variable accuracy from +/-5m at best to +/-30m or worse.
