First of all..do u refill ur toner?? if so i advise u to get a new original one and refill that..do refill the same toner for more than 3 times. Secondly, How old is ur printer and how many pages do u print weekly..or u be better off buying a new one...Finally, I think the problem is with the heated rubber rollers that are not melting the charged toner particles causing it to smudge. try cleaning the printer by removing any dust...i prefer that u try it out with a new toner and see if u have a same problem.
Inside the printer there is a piece called a "blade". After a sheet is printed then the blade's job is to run across the toner cartridge and clean up all the toner. If the blade is not working properly then you will get excess toner. So the blade needs to be changed. You can change it yourself, by looking for instructions off of the internet or have a repair shop do it...here is a website just to give you an idea of what I am talking about. Any questions let me know. http://www.tradekey.com/ks-printer-blade/
Generally speaking, any area that is darkened, is receiving less light. This can come from a lamp that is failing (similar to a fluorescent lamp used for lighting developing a dark end) or a mirror or optical lense that is contaminated with toner.
This may require some disassembly to diagnose and cure.
You may also want to visually check the fuser assembly (often accessible behind a door) to ensure there is no toner buildup on the affected side.
first u must diagnostic the problem to see if the problem from the drum unit or the fusser unit by stop the printer in the middle of print and remove the paper then u can see if the smudge appear it well be from the toner if not then the fusser faulty
Sounds to me like the toner - that is the toner cartridge has the wrong toner in it. The drum should be OK - clean it up first and then use a genuine toner cartridge OR you can buy our refill kit on eBay - search for Brother HL2040 - michellem6123
