The basic operation of the air conditioner system go like this.

  1. There's gas inside the system of course.
  2. have to coils and a compressor
  3. On the cooling coil is where the gas is going out of the compressor making it to loose heat by the expansion of the gas.
  4. On the other hand, the other coils that name escapes me now, but there is where the gas is collected and compressed. And by the friction of the gas make it to raise the temperature forcing to have a coil to dissipate that heat sufficient enough to maintain the gas temp. rapidly for use it again.
  5. This goes on infinite cycle.

No, no concern. It is expelling the captured heat.

Remove exhaust hose

U need that hose to direct the warm air outside the area to be cooled. If you remove it, the hot exhaust will stay in the room being cooled and negate the cold air being directed into the room.

That is why regular room AC units are mounted on window sill. Cold air in, hot air out.

I just bought a used DeLonghi Pinguino PAC 02. It seems to cool ok but the exhaust hose gets very warm. Is that normal?

Yes, that is normal. It's exhausting the heat from the compressor out the window.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Why is this blowing hot air out the back when the cold a comes out the front

The hot air is heat from the cooling compressor, while it's in operation. It's normal and should not be of concern, as long as the unit is cooling as it should and the host air is being exhausted out the flexible hose to the window.

Hope this answered your question and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Is heat supposed to be felt out the back of unit? I feel heat coming from around the tube in one spot

Yes, it's normal for the exhaust heat to be warm. Because it's a combination of the compressor heating up and the hot air be exhausted out of the house.. However, with that said, make sure the exhaust hose is securely attached and that he is not a pin hole or two, in the exhaust hose near the coupling. Also, make sure that you clean the air intake filter clean regularly.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks,

Do we need to use both hoses?

You could draw the air from inside however the system works much more effeciently with 2 hoses.
The air that is drawn into the unit and heated then exhausted back outside. If you don't use the second hose all the air that is exhausted will have to be drawn in around windows and doors or othe voids in the area. This would draw in warm moist air that would then have to be cooled and dehumidified.

Air intake via hose & window or intake from room only?

Hello artrey3 The answer is yes, BUT the unit will be exausting room/basement air outside ruining any efficency the unit is rated for. Also you will need makeup/fresh air in the basement. The unit exausting air can put the basement in a vacuum/negitive pressure pulling in air from the chimney!

Model DLE7177RM, takes about 3 hours to dry a load of clothes. Dryer is NOT overloaded.

Does the dryer heat up or is it just cool air drying the clothes ? If it does actually dry the clothes eventually then it sounds like it is heating up. First thing to check would be exhaust hose. Is warm air blowing out of it ? If warm you got heat. If cool then your heating element isn't working. It should be fairly strong current of very warm air. If weak but warm, then somewhere between lint filter and end of hose you have a blockage caused by lint buildup or hose is bent and blocking air flow. Check hose first. You can disassemble lint trap and go beyond the lint screen into metal duct within dryer and clean with a long brush and vacuum. You can also disconnect exhaust duct flexible hose at back of dryer and work through metal duct from that end too. If you notice increased air flow then it should solve problem,

Air exhaust hose gets extremely warm

The Pinguino's exhaust pipe has to be attached to the window bracket to direct the air hot air out of the room, otherwise the room can't cool properly.
The owner's manual has several troubleshooting remedies for you to try:
1)  If the window is open, close the window. 2)  If there is a heat source in the room (burner, lamp, etc.), eliminate the heat source. 3)  If the exhaust hose is detached, connect the exhaust hose.  (My recommendation is to connect the exhaust hose to the window bracket and direct the air outside.) 4)  If the air filters are clogged, clean or replace the filters.
Remedies that aren't mentioned in the manual, but you might find helpful:
1)  Make sure that there are no kinks in the hose, and that the hose either remains straight or has a gentle curve when directing it into the window bracket.
2)  A sunny window reduces the maximum power and efficiency of the unit.  Placing it in a sunny window reduces your BTUs by at least 600, which means the maximum square footage of cooled space is reduced.  Cooling a kitchen requires at least 4,000 BTUs alone, which is nearly half of the unit's BTUs.  Try to place the unit by a window that receives minimum to no direct sunlight.
Finally, stating the obvious, if the room isn't cooling, the room is too large for the unit.  The PACL90 cools up to 400sqft.  Bear in mind that the air from these portable air conditioners cannot move around corners very well, so try to set it by a window in the central part of the room.
