Question about Gateway M1200-3004265 Tablet PC

1 Answer

Operating System Not Found

I am trying to start my Gateway M1200, and I am getting just a black screen and an error that reads:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F:Exiting PXE ROM
Operating System not found

The computer wasn't dropped or jarred.
Is there a command to bypass this and get to the content? I am just trying to pull my music off, and then I don't care if it crashes.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, your described problem indicates a hard disk problem: either it is no longer recognized (most likely) or the partition / files are corrupted.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Initially, check in the setup BIOS / CMOS if the hard drive is still detected by the computer. Press on F1 or F2 afterturning it on.To my understanding an M1200 uses a 40 Gb hard disk (HD).

If the HD can no longer be detected, then it indicates that the HD is defective. A defective HD that can no longer be detected has no easy way of retrieving or recovering the contents.

If you still want to verify and give it a try, you would need to remove the 40Gb HD from the M1200, attach it to an IDE /SATA to USB adapter and hook it up to your 2nd PC. Normally, it should be read as a Removable Storage Device just like a flash/thumb drive and the files could be copied, recovered or moved.

It means that the BIOS cannot find a disk to boot.
Make sure you selected the hard drive in the boot settings of your BIOS
Remove all external DVD drives or floppy drives or ethernet cables
If you get an error message, you should start troubleshooting your hard drive.

Tried the same thing and got the same result using the motion computing DVD/CD external reader/burner.

Has anyone found an answer to this problem of trying to switch to a larger hard drive on the 1600 with format/installing? The new hard drive was not able to read the recovery disk with OS on it.
Thanks.

Unable to install OS on Hard drive. Error PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable. PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM. Invalid partition table

When your computer failed to boot from the disk-drive, it tried to connect to a network-accessible "boot-server" via the Ethernet adapter.

However, if there's no cable connected to the computer's Ethernet port, you will get the "check the cable" error-message.

So, your real problem is "invalid partition table", which means that the very first record on the disk-drive is either missing or corrupt.
That first record contains the "partition table", which lists the size of the hard-drive, and the size of each partition (usually only one) on the hard-drive.

So, you'll need to buy an adapter that has a USB-plug on one end, and a connector for your "SATA" or "IDE" hard-drive at the other end.

Remove the hard-drive from your computer, attach it to the connector, and plug-in the USB connector to a USB port on another computer, and then use software to delete and then reconstruct the partition table.

Or, the hard-drive is failing, and must be replaced (maybe under warranty???).

That error message just indicates that the syswtem tried to do a network boot and couldn't since it did not detect an Ethernet cable connected to the port. Apparently your hard disk has died and needs to be replaced or your BIOS settings have changed and your hard disk is no longer in the boot order. Check your BIOS settings to confirm.

Motion m1200

First be sure that you are running windows XP tablet edition, then download the drivers from motion computing. This is the link:

If you are running windows XP regular not Tablet PC edition it is not going to work, toush pad and buttons only work on tablet edition.

This solve the problem.
