Boss i will tell you how top set up a wireless connection on your laptop through a Wi-Fi network. You should however know how to configure your settings manually to be able to connect your Wi-Fi card to the wireless network.

The first step for the configuration is to determine what SSID, Channel, Mode and WEP you are using.
What is SSID?
SSID is the acronym for Service Set Identifier which is the name of your wireless LAN made up of 32 alphanumeric characters. This service can be set manually through your client network settings. In order to enhance the network security system, some wireless access points will automatically disable this feature.
Wireless Channel Selection
Access points or so called APs mechanism is used to automatically detect the channel selection. Your network can hence have various APs that will manage each channel selected and make their power regulations. A wireless station will be load balanced across the access points in order to enhance its bandwidth.
WEP
WEP is a short term for Wired Equivalent Privacy which is a system of data encryption used in a wireless network in order to allow authorization control for a 802.11 wireless local area network.
How to set up your wireless connection
Nowadays, a modern notebook is built with a wireless modem that has a wireless power system and an activation button found on the keyboard. This button will allow your laptop to connect or disconnect with your wireless modem. If you do not have your user manual to be able to identify this key. now as a IBM think pad G41 PC user follow this.. For IBM users

  • For T43 users, you can use the Fn and F5 keys at the same time
  • For DV series users, use the antenna-like button found on the upper section of your keyboard.
  • For ZD series users, make use of the antenna-like button just below the “Lock” key.
  • Some models have the wireless slide button on the side of the laptop.
  • think pad will have similar kind of feature as above mentioned.. please try.. it helps..

I have 2 ibm thinkpad R50p. one is constantly shutting down and the other one turns the radio off all the time and I can not get on the internet remotely

the one constantly shutting down may have heat issues. check that the fan and heatsink are not clogged.
the one messing with your radio all the time must be having a wireless RF interference problem or something. Try turning the wifi off and plugging it in with a CAT5 cord.

Think pad r40/2681(driver prob.i.e. usb/wireless/sound etc.)

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model laptop,
You need to use a computer that has Internet access to download and transfer the files to your computer.

Wireless connection

Hi,

There are a few requirements other than the laptop and the wireless card. You need to also have an Wireless AP/Router that must be connected to the modem that connects to your ISP. All your PCs must then connect to this router either using the wired/Ethernet ports or WiFi.

If such a device (WiFi AP/Router) already exists and is connected to your modem and your other PC(s) are tied up to it and can access the Internet, you need to install the drivers (in a CD that came with the wireless card) to your IBM ThinkPad. Thereafter, you need to configure your laptop's wireless networking to access the AP/router. Your AP/Router must also be configured to accept wireless clients.

Please post back with brand/model of your AP/Router.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
