Question about Canon PowerShot SD500 / IXUS 700 Digital Camera
My camera says the my memory card is locked.?? i dont no how to unlock it My Ixus 70 says my card is locked, but the card is NOT locked (button on the side of the card is in unlock position). The camera still indicates card locked with a new card inserted.
Here's the solution, I just had the same problem LOL!
1. take the memory card out
2.On the memory card there is a little switch (it will be the little tiny piece on the side of the card thats a different color) slide it up.

You have to put a bit of tape around the bit were the little tab use to be.. This works epically if you have lost the tab from the card.
p.s. i did this with an SD card an it worked i don't know if it will work with any other types of card. good luck anywhos, try yahoo answers they seem to have alot of info too. (Y)

I had the same error message on my Casio Exilim n it was the memory card. On the side of the card there is a slider, to protect the images or whatever data you have in it from being erraised. Hope this helps someone.

The switch on the card is only to push a connector inside the camera think of a video or casette tape tab if you remove it you can not record to it. My ixus 700 (sd500) had the same card locked error but I was more brave and took my camera apart and found the problem. There are 2 small but long pieces of metal which when they make contact by the card being inserted and the lock slider being in the right place tells the camera there is a card inserted. One of the long contacts had been bent completely back on itself and when trying to straighten it, it broke. I am currently trying to find a camera for repair or the spare part I need which is the entire internal memory card holder. This may not be the problem for all your camera but I have seen quite a few forums with the same issues.

Turn off ur camera, remove the memory card and look for the "lock" or "unlock" button, set it to "unlock" and ready.

Canon Card is locked - there is a switch on the thin side of the SD card!!! It is small and you can see where it says "locked on the card.- The camera is NOT BAD it has nothing to do with the camera!

SOURCE: Memory card locked
There is a tiny button on the side of the card - so small you can hardly see it. Just slide it up and voila All is solved.
It is frustrating as there is nothing in the manual bout this and the onl line assistance wants to charge for 20 seconds advice Mine is free dorothy
